Powered by Android
The D-Line from Philips is a smart and intuitive
display with integratedWifi and Android
OS. Android integration means you can run
existing apps or develop your own to display
content without the need for an external
media player. An automatic screenshot feature
provides proof of play so you can make sure
that your content is up-and-running at all
times. An mPCIe slot lets you connect an extra
WiFi/Bluetooth or 4G LTE module for added
flexibility. The D-Line Display comes in a
variety of sizes ranging from 32-65 inches.
Extended colour range
Sharp Information Systems Europe has
launched the PN-H801 80-inch 4K UHD Large
Format Display, the first professional display to
feature an extended colour range. Designed to
meet demand from luxury retailers for in-store
displays with better colour reproduction, the
PN-H801 with Sharp UV2A LCD technology
offers a much wider colour range than standard
LFDs. Adverts and photographs look more
lifelike on the PN-H801, enabling retailers to
create the brand experience they want.
Connect and collaborate
Sharp has released new software that enables
customers to link three 80-inch BIG PAD Pros
in a row and create a huge interactive flat
panel display 5.4m wide on which six people
can work simultaneously.
Built in media player
Panasonic has expanded its signage display
lineup with the EF1 series, which it says is
ideal for schools, showrooms, retail spaces
and offices. Each IPS panel features a built-
in USB media player, eliminating the need
for a set-top box or a connected PC for
basic functionality. The series is compatible
with Panasonic’s free Multi Monitoring and
Control software, which enables users to
distribute content from a PC to multiple
displays; automatically power on/off; switch
to USB input; and play content according to a
schedule.The EF1 series is available in 32, 75
and 84-inch models
The complete package
VXL has entered the digital signage market
with the Illumineye DS Suite, a complete
software and media-player package designed
to make high-quality digital signage available
to everyone at a more affordable price
(£305). Illumineye software is Windows-based
and handles everything from the creation
of campaigns using supplied templates
to distribution locally, over a LAN or over
the Internet. The Intel-based thin client,
the Illumineye IQ-L Player,
is designed to be
mounted on the back
of a screen using
the inclusive VESA
bracket.
Simplified signage

PCs for large format displays and projectors.

resolution displays, adding that greater
detail supports larger screen sizes.
In addition, displays are becoming
smarter and more intuitive. Philips has
integrated the Android operating system
into its digital displays, providing access
to Android apps and integrated player
functionality. Content can be played
directly from the display, meaning there’s
no need for an external media player.
Panasonic’s new AF1 display series
also runs on Android and the OpenPort
Platform, which, according to Day, is a
big improvement on previous external
‘Wintel’ systems.
“For a long timeWintel setups have
been the main way content has been
pushed to displays, but now with the
flexibility of Android, System-On-a-Chip
technology and open source software,
displays have become more standalone
and there are vastly more options in
terms of user interactivity and overall
flexibility for customers,” he said.
