Xero apps
Xero, a provider of cloud-based
accounting software for small businesses
and their advisors, has set up an App
Marketplace where customers can
find and download 500 business apps.
More than a quarter of Xero’s 717,000
customers now use one or more of the
apps available. Small businesses can
search for apps by industry or function.
Track your health
Users of the ‘UP by Jawbone’
wristband and app can now record
data from the wearable directly
into their Medelinked health
record, providing them with one
place to manage their own and
their family’s health details. The
UP by Jawbone app can also be
used with Samsung S Health,
Nokia/Withings, iHealth and Your MD.
Plan your bike route
Cyclists who need help with route
planning should try out CycleMap, a free
app with details of 2.5 million kilometres
of cycle paths across the globe. A new
RouteMagic feature suggests customised
routes based on each user’s tastes
and capabilities. CycleMap is
available for free on the App Store,
Google Play and on the web.

Shop local
The NearSt app and website enables
shoppers to order products from local
stores for instant collection or 1-hour
delivery. The app’s developers claim that
any shop can set up and start selling real-
time inventory through NearSt in less than
10 minutes. Shoppers can use the
app/website to search for items,
check local availability and place
orders. NearSt’s product offering
and range are currently limited
to books and London, but there
are plans to expand both in the
future.
Share your PC
The SuchFlex Computing-Sharing
Desktop App allows anyone to share their
computing resources and get paid for
doing so. To use SuchFlex, users download
the desktop app to their computer and
choose whether they want to share their
CPU, GPU or hard-drive storage via the
SuchFlex platform. At the end of each
week, users can redeem either US Dollars
or Bitcoin through PayPal, Coinbase and
other payment processors.
One number anywhere
Unified communications vendor Swyx is
enabling customers to extend corporate
communication beyond the office via
the SwyxMobile app. As well as giving
mobile users access
to contact lists,
including presence
information, the app
enables employees
to be reached via a
single phone number
whether they are in
or out of the office.
Smarter EPOS
Intelligent Point of Sale has launched a
new version of the UK’s first cloud-based,
iPad electronic point of sale (EPOS) app.
Intelligentpos Version 4.0 provides more
detailed online analysis and reporting;
the ability to add and delete new users;
and remote management of products,
prices and categories, with changes
automatically synchronised across all
iPads.
Virtual race
Racefully is a fun running app that lets
friends meet up ‘virtually’ and run
together. The real-time Live Run feature
keeps track of who’s taking the lead. To
make things fair, an Environment Equaliser
takes into account whether people are
running uphill or downhill when working
out race positions.
Racefully is available for
free on the App store and
will soon be available for
Android.
Zero commission
share trading
Freetrade is a new app
that aims to revolutionise
trading in stocks and shares by bringing
commission-free trading and fractional
share dealing to the UK for the first
time. Freetrade says these innovations
will open up the market to people who
want to trade but don’t have large sums
to invest. For example, fractional trading
allows someone to invest $25 in Apple
shares even if Apple is trading at $100
per share. In a world
first, Freetrade is also
offering access to a
network of IFAs who
can provide advice
directly through the
app, helping people
new to trading to
make informed
investment decisions.
Freetrade has been
accepted onto the
FCA Innovation Hub
program and is in
the process of applying to the FCA for
regulatory permission to be an execution-
only broker. The company is on course to
start officially trading within the £288bn
UK share dealing market by early 2017.
Zoho rolls out platform
Cloud business software provider Zoho
has launched the Zoho Developer program
giving independent software vendors
(ISVs) and application developers the tools
and resources to create extensions to Zoho
applications or automate new processes
with custom applications. This follows the
launch of the Zoho Marketplace online
store where users can buy extensions and
custom-built applications and developers
can sell them commission-free.
