LONDON STATIONERY SHOW
Colour and convenience
Leading tape and stationery manufacturer
tesa was highlighting the importance of
colour and convenience in purchasing
decisions. Following a consumer testing
programme, it has decided to produce new
tesapack Pack ‘n’ Go products solely in
pink and cyan blue, as these were shown
to be the most popular colours amongst
consumers.
Also on display were tesa’s environmentally-
friendly ecoLogo glue sticks, mini correction
rollers and easy cut tape dispensers, made in
the main from recycled or biological materials
A good example is the tiny tesa Mini Roller
Correction ecoLogo housed in a 100% recycled
plastic dispenser.
70 years
of innovation
Another company
with much to
celebrate at the
London Stationery
Show was Pentel,
which is marking its
70th anniversary
with a new tagline –
‘Discover the best’.
In addition to its
new EnerGel Permanent rollerball (see
page 13), available in 0.5mm or 0.7mm
point sizes and a choice of black, red
and blue ink, Pentel was highlighting
its innovative Orenz mechanical pencil,
which features a one-click anti-breaking
system to protect the lead.
Pentel marketing manager Wendy Vickery
said: “The main difference between using the
new Orenz and other mechanical pencils is
that when writing with Orenz none of the refill
lead protrudes below the metal sleeve. Once
the lead has been prepared, there’s no need
to advance it below the sleeve again. Contrary
to expectation, the sleeve doesn’t scratch the
surface of the paper because it is rounded to
facilitate smooth writing or drawing.”
She added: “We call it ‘Orenz One-Click’,
because it’s only necessary to click the end
button once to advance both the sleeve and
the lead or to load a new refill lead. Users know
when it’s time for a new lead because the metal
sleeve slides back as the old lead is used up.”
The Orenz range includes the very first
0.2mm fine lead automatic pencil, ideal for
plans, drawings and intricate detail. Other sizes
in the range are 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm.
Cause for celebration
The first day of the Stationery
Show was a double celebration for
MagicWhiteboard, as it marked
its 10th birthday and the sale of its one
millionth roll of MagicWhiteboard with a
MagicWhiteboard-shaped cake.
The Dragon’s Den winner was also promoting
a new child safety locator and app. The ifindyou
Bluetooth tracker alerts you if your child
wanders off and pinpoints their last known
location on Google Maps. It can also be used to
locate lost items, such as keys or a wallet.
More traditional products on display included
Reusable Magic Notebooks, which allow you to
write with a dry marker, wipe the page clean
and reuse; new 2 in 1 Magic Cling Notes, which
are erasable on one side and have a normal
writing surface on the other; and Magic Click
Marker retractable whiteboard marker pens.
Unique rollerball pens
The Mitsubishi Pencil Company’s uni-ball brand was
showcasing the Signo TSI erasable rollerball, which
uses specially-formulated ink that turns clear
when rubbed with an eraser on the end of the
pen, and the uni-ball Air rollerball with light-fast
and waterproof ‘Super Ink’ (see page 13).
Other highlights were a new art and craft range,
consisting of drawing fineliners, Posca water-based
paint markers, colourful gel pens, chalk markers
and permanent paint markers.
The Nuco option
Nuco International launched six new notepad
ranges including: Nu Elite Prestige, with faux-
leather covers and engraved metalwork; the
timeless, natural Nu Elite Kraft collection;
the sophisticated Nu Elite Savile Row, made
with Italian materials; the fashionable and
functional Nu Era Style, already a huge hit
with stockistsWHSmith; Nu Era Pastels,
featuring soft and pretty shades; and Nu Era
Denim journals with stitch detailing.
Assistant marketing manager Ella Pugh
said: “The 2016 collection has been a really
important one for us to put our stamp on the
market as a trend-driven, affordable brand.
We’ve experimented with all kinds of materials
and are very proud of the quality we have
achieved.”
