Thin red line
The new ‘Fil Rouge’ collection from Italian
paper specialist Fabriano Boutique brings a
modern twist to traditional notebooks crafted
from the finest Fedrigoni papers. Designed by
Thomas Manns, one of the UK’s leading graphic
designers, the A4 and A5 notebooks have felt
marked blue paper covers with a horizontal red
elastic band and internal red ruled pages. Other
items in the Collection include the ‘Fil Rouge
box’ business card holder and the ‘Fil Rouge Tie
Case’.
Pukka acquisition
Pukka Pads has strengthened its position as
a paper supplier with the acquisition of the
A4 copier paper business of John Heyer Paper.
John Heyer Paper has a long heritage in A4
copier paper and was one of the first suppliers
to launch a 100% recycled copier paper in the
1970s.
Office collections for departing colleagues
are being given a twenty-first century make-
over by Viing.
Instead of having to pass around (track and
chase) a card and envelope for contributions,
Viing lets you set up a page online and share the
link with colleagues who can leave a message for
the recipient and put money into a virtual pot.
Sums collected can be transferred directly
into the recipient’s bank account or used to buy
a gift voucher.
Viing co-founder Chris Makris told
Pen To
Paper
that the solution was borne out of real-
world frustrations. “Our co-founder Elle worked
in an office and became increasingly frustrated
with the time-consuming nature of arranging a
card and gift for her colleagues. Having searched
the Internet for a better solution and having
no luck, she set out to create her own solution.
She formed a team with fellow co-founders,
Yianni and Chris, and launched Viing in early
September 2015.”
The service, which can be used for other
occasions such as birthdays and maternity leave,
is free for the organiser and for contributors.
Viing makes its money through mark-ups on
the greeting cards – all designed in-house – and
from commission received from gift voucher
suppliers.
“At the moment Viing offers Amazon
vouchers directly,” explained Makris. “However,
we are currently in the process of signing more
suppliers onto our platform. Viing also offers
users the option of a same day bank transfer
at no additional cost, giving users complete
flexibility.”
Relaxation a big draw for edding
Edding is encouraging individuals, including office workers, to
relax through colouring, zendoodling, art therapy and mandalas.
It has released a number of special packs developed especially
for de-stressing techniques, such as Zentangle, which is claimed
to aid meditative relaxation and emotional balance. Users start
with a few strokes and, little by little, build them up into patterns
(tangles) that, when joined together, result in a small work of art.
New products include the 10-colour edding Tangle Colouring
Set; the edding Zendoodle Outline Set, which contains three
black edding 1800 precision fineliners in a choice of stroke
widths, plus a silver edding 2185 gel roller for dark paper; the
edding 1340 brushpen with a flexible brush tip for colouring in
finished patterns or pre-drawn colouring pictures; and the edding
1340 Zendoodle Colouring Set with ten vibrant colours.
For colouring in designs, edding also recommends the edding
1200 and 1300 fibre pens and the edding 55 fineliner.

Design awards for eneloop
Panasonic has won two iF Design Awards for
its eneloop batteries – a Packaging Design

organic limited edition batteries.
The Ni-MH batteries come pre-charged with
solar energy; can be recharged up to 2,100 times;
and have minimal energy loss, retaining 70% of
the original charge even after 10 years.
Eneloop packaging is made from naturally
derived plastics, can be used as a storage case for
the batteries and breaks down organically in soil
when no longer needed.
