What innovation do you dream of?
I dream of motor cars that can fly and thus guarantee a smooth traffic flow,
with no jams and gridlocks.

Can you remember your first pen, and if so, what was it?
My first pen was a blue Pelikan fountain pen. In those days we all had a Geha
or Pelikan fountain pen – the girls in red, the boys in blue.
Do you have a favourite pen today?
I select my pens depending on the situation. Sometimes I use my fountain
pen, sometimes a ball-point pen or pencil, and of course I also frequently use
my marker.
Do you always use the same colour ink?
No, I don’t always use the same colour ink.
When did you last use a pencil and for what purpose?
Today. I made an entry with my pencil in my handwritten engagement diary.
Do you have a paper diary (desk or pocket)?
Yes, I have a paper diary for my desk.
What piece of stationery sits on/in your desk but is never used?
I am a person who surrounds himself with functional items and does not
actually have anything superfluous on his desk. So I regularly use all the things
with which I surround myself at my workplace.
What innovations would you like to see in the future?
I would like office essentials and constantly developing digitalisation to
go hand in hand, thus benefiting each other and merging with each other.
We showed a striking example of this at our last Paperworld Special Show,
where we chose the intelligent use of beacon technology* as a subject in the
stationery and writing-materials sector.
* Beacons are tiny Bluetooth transmitters, which emit signals that can
be picked up by modern smartphones within a radius of 30 metres. They
allow retailers, including stationers, to push information about products or
promotional offers to apps running on shoppers’ smartphones.
