Desktop solution eliminates problem
of counterfeit IDs
HID Global claims to have eliminated the problem of counterfeit ID cards in universities,
enterprises and government bodies by implementing technology similar to that used in
US Green Cards.
The new vanGO One-2-One visual security solution hot-stamps cards with a square metallic
patch displaying the cardholder’s facial image, creating a secure link between the card and
cardholder that makes counterfeiting almost impossible.
HID Global says that more than 90% of card inspections in the field are still done visually rather
than with electronic readers.
PVC/PET composite cards featuring vanGO metallic patches can be issued on the spot using
a desktop system based on HID Global card personalisation software, a FARGO HDP8500 ID card
printer and a special laser writer module for printing the metallic patches.
HID Global says that this system is one third of the price of current market solutions.
Craig Sandness, Vice President of Secure Issuance Business at HID Global, said: “With this latest
breakthrough in our visual security offerings, HID Global is enabling our customers to issue more
advanced and secure ID cards than ever before, in the same easy-to-implement and cost-effective
way that they have come to expect from us.”
Two options are available: a standard, off-the-shelf version; and vanGO Custom, which lets you
modify the shape and location of the vanGO patch and add other visual security features, such as a
hologram.
NHS updates ID printers
ID printers of a different sort are currently being rolled
out across the NHS to enable the on-site printing of ID
Smartcards for staff who need to access secure NHS
systems. Magicard Enduro+ custom printers have been
integrated into a card management system developed
by HSCIC, the national provider of information, data and
IT systems for health and social care, as part of its Care
Identity Services programme. IT services company SCC
has been awarded a three-year contract to implement the
solution in partnership with Essentra Security, Europe’s
leading provider of ID solutions.

claimed to enhance collaboration, reduce
complexity and streamline data flows in
small and medium-sized businesses. These
include the E-Series printers for everyday
printing tasks and the Dell Smart printer,
an affordable small workgroup printer with
security features as standard.
All E-Series devices feature a new Dell
Printer Hub control panel giving access to
printer functions and cloud connectivity. These
include printer utilities, a Scan Manager, cloud-
based optical character recognition (OCR) and
the Dell Document Hub, which lets users store,
share and print content from Box, Dropbox,
Evernote, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive
and Microsoft SharePoint Online 2013.
The Dell Printer Hub can also be used to
create customised short-cuts and display alerts
for toner re-ordering and software/firmware
updates.
