AXELOS has announced a major update to
PRINCE2 due to be launched in mid-2017.
PRINCE 2 is the world’s most practiced
methodology for project management. In
the UK alone, 495,711 professionals have
gained PRINCE2 certification, including
people in marketing, HR and legal, as well
as traditional IT and professional project
management roles.
In a survey of 2,400 professionals,
88% of PRINCE2 practitioners said that
the qualification had aided their career
progression and was valuable in their
current role (85%).
The first major PRINCE2 update since
2009 reflects changes in business practice
in the last 10 years and places a strong
emphasis on the scalability and flexibility
of the method and on how best to tailor it
to the specific requirements of a project.
The updated PRINCE2 guidance,
Managing Successful Projects
, will initially
become available in an English version,
with other languages to follow. It has been
developed in consultation with over 100
project management professionals and
organisations from across the world.

The Association for Project Management
(APM) has received its Royal Charter.
This completes the final phase before the
association founded in 1972 transitions
to a full Chartered body in April 2017.
The Sealed Charter was received by APM
President David Waboso, Chairman John
McGlynn and CEO Sara Drake in December.
APM Chairman John McGlynn said:
“Our skills are needed more than ever and
the Royal Charter provides the [project
management] profession with a platform
to raise awareness of our skills, improve
standards and develop our practice for the
benefit of all.”

Gig economy for data projects
Pivigo is bringing the gig economy to data projects with the launch of Europe’s first
marketplace for connecting data scientists from around the globe with businesses seeking
to outsource data projects. Pivigo says that providing a platform where companies can post
project requests and the data science community review them should ease a digital skills
gap that is claimed to cost the UK £2 billion a year (source TechUK).
Emerson Network
Power rebranded
Following its acquisition by Platinum
Equity in a deal worth $4 billion,

25 manufacturing and assembly facilities
worldwide, Vertiv is a provider of mission-
critical infrastructure technologies for data
centres, communication networks and
commercial and industrial environments.
Its flagship brands include ASCO,
Chloride, Liebert, NetSure and Trellis.
The standalone company will be led
by CEO Rob Johnson, who earlier in his
career spent 10 years at American Power
Conversion (APC), rising to President
and CEO when the company was sold to
Schneider Electric for $6.1 billion in 2007.
UPS maintenance options
explained
Power management company Eaton has
published a white paper,
How to choose
the right UPS service approach
, exploring
the pros and cons of four of the most
common Uninterruptible Power Supply
maintenance and service options. Eaton
Service Marketing Manager Fabio Mazza
said: “Our own records show that over
25% of preventive maintenance visits
are followed up with corrective actions.
This demonstrates the value that can be
gained from having a service plan in place,
as potential issues can be identified and
addressed before they cause disruption or
downtime.”
