Epson’s Workforce Pro RIPS devices
are business printers that make it
much easier to achieve predictable
print costs. Replaceable Ink Pack
System (RIPS) devices have been
designed exclusively for managed
print services (MPS) and use super-
high-yield ink supply units containing
three years worth of ink. The black
ink pack has a capacity of 75,000
pages and each of the three colour
ones contains enough ink for 50,000
pages. The Workforce Pro RIPS range
includes four colour models, an A4
printer and A4 MFP, and an A3 printer
and A3 MFP.
These devices offer expanded
functionality, including oversize A3
printing, longer lasting consumables and
essential print management solutions,
from follow me and mobile printing to user
authentication and digital workflows.
Since the WorkForce Pro RIPS business
inkjet printers were introduced in 2014,
Epson has established a distribution
channel for the range. Today, RIPS is
available from a network of twenty six
carefully selected managed print service
providers throughout the UK. These include
ASL, Bytek Ltd, Contrac, Sapphire Print
Solutions and Scan DB.
Each partner is well supported by
Epson with full access to service training
and spare parts. Mark Reynolds, business
director for Epson UK, comments: “We
have spent some time making absolutely
sure we have just the right mix of
partners. They are all well established in
the managed print industry and combine
a blend of product knowledge, market
experience, sales support and training to
ensure that our customers receive the very
best levels of service possible.”
At the beginning of November, Epson
announced that it will invest
50 million in
Europe over the next two years to drive its
growth in the region. The new investment
will focus on infrastructure, information
technology and marketing, and Epson will
increase its regional workforce by 10%.
Reynolds said: “Business inkjet printing
is the big growth opportunity for Epson
in the UK. Building on the multi-million
euro business we have already built, this
new investment will help us to get even
closer to our customers and strengthen our
relationships with channel partners.”
The Workforce Pro series is aimed
at small and medium-sized businesses
and enterprise workgroups and is at
the heart of Epson's drive for growth in
European business markets. Incorporating
the company’s PrecisionCore print head
technology, Epson believes that its
WorkForce Pro printers are well positioned
to take advantage of the ongoing shift
from laser to business inkjet printing
technology in medium to large-sized
corporations.
Epson announced some research
reinforcing the business benefits of inket
printing over laser printers. Data from
new tests by Buyers Laboratory LLC (BLI),
an independent provider of analytical
information to the document management
industry, demonstrates how businesses
could benefit from lower energy costs,
less waste and reduced maintenance time
by making the switch from laser to inkjet
technology. The survey
used Epson’s WorkForce
Pro models as the inkjet
comparison to a number
of competing colour
lasers and laser copiers
and found that inkjet
technology offered savings
of up to 100 minutes on
required interventions, three
and a half times faster speed
for the first page out, up to
82% in energy savings and
95% or 77 kilograms less waste
when printing up to 80,000 pages.
In addition, the BLI research found that
over a range of typical office activities
for a three-minute period, WorkForce Pro
models are up to 18% quieter (29.42
dBA) than competitive laser printers and
copiers, making them ideal for the work
environment.
To celebrate the findings, Epson has
launched its ‘Go Green’ programme,
relevant across its eco-friendly Business
Imaging portfolio. Participating resellers
will receive dedicated support from
Epson in the form of a marketing toolkit,
promotional copy and collateral, and
both resellers and end users will receive
exclusive incentives. Qualifying products
include the Workforce Pro WF-5620DWF
and WF-8510DWF.
“When you look at the proven benefits
of inkjet technology, it is no wonder that
it is diminishing laser printing’s historical
dominance. With the forecast growth
rate of inkjet, and a growing corporate
requirement for more environmentally
friendly, low-energy and efficient
technology in the workplace, it won’t be
long before inkjet displaces laser in offices
everywhere,” concludes Reynolds.
