smartphone compatibility, a stereo sound
microphone and a slick, intuitively-designed
user interface. In addition, it’s equipped
with assistive technology such as Voice
Command and Text-to-Speech functions.

intuitive operation. The high resolution,
high contrast 2.0” (5.1cm) colour LCD
incorporates graphical icons that can be
clearly seen. Controls are ergonomically
positioned and dedicated buttons for home
screen, recording scene and volume allow
for intuitive use in no time. Three additional
function buttons directly below the LCD
can also be individually defined.
What really makes the DM-7 stand
out from the crowd is its host of features
specifically designed to bring high
specification voice recording to visually
impaired users. Functions such as Voice
Command and a Voice Guide lift the
restrictions that people with reading
disabilities have had to contend with in
the past. Rather than being required to
read and scroll through menus, the Voice
Command function lets users access and
control menus and sub-menus using their
voice alone. The Voice Guide alerts users
to where they are when navigating around
the recorder’s extensive features.
The recorder doubles as an audio book
player, as well as providing an easy way
to ‘read’ emails and documents, thanks to
its Daisy compatibility and Text-to-Speech
functionality.
The 90-degree orientation of the
low noise, high sensitivity microphone
unit enables stereo sound capture that
retains a natural ambiance. Furthermore,
by enlarging the openings around each
microphone, the phase difference of
sound from the front and rear can now
be captured more faithfully. In Zoom
Microphone mode, state-of-the-art
directional control technology is deployed
to enable the adjustment of mic directivity
to capture voice optimally, even in
situations with extraneous noise.
Recordings can be saved in the 4GB
internal memory as MP3 or WMA files – or
even in 48 kHz/16bit Linear PCM format
for better than CD results. An SD card slot
allows the addition of external memory of
up to 64GB.
Accessories include a Lithium-ion
rechargeable battery, AC adapter, inner ear
headphone, USB Cable, USB plug adapter,
carrying case, strap and the Olympus
