Paper:Mate's
compostable pen
The Paper:Mate Biodegradable is
claimed to be the frst widely available
line of pens and mechanical pencils
made with a majority of biodegradable
components that take about 12
months to break down in soil/home
compost heaps.
Paper:Mate Biodegradable products
look and feel like conventional plastic,
but their compostable components are
a bio-plastic made from plant-derived
sugar, an annually renewable resource.
The introduction of the Paper:Mate
Biodegradable line follows last year's
launch of products made from recycled
material, including the Paper:Mate
FlexGrip Ultra Recycled Ball Point Pen
made from 70% recycled material; the
Paper:Mate EarthWrite Recycled Pencil
made from 100% recycled wood; and the
Paper:MateWrite Bros. Recycled Ball Point
Pen made from 80% recycled material.
Earlier this year Newell Rubbermaid
Offce Products brands including
Paper:Mate, Sharpie and Expo in
conjunction with TerraCycle set up the
world's frst program to collect and reuse
or recycle pens, markers and other writing
instruments.
The Paper:Mate Biodegradable pen is
available in black, blue, red or purple ink.

Canon has introduced a new design for its recycled calculators. The Arc Design Series
features a gently sloping body and covers made out of plastic
recycled from old Canon copiers. An Auto Power Off function
reduces unnecessary energy use by shutting each model
down after 7 minutes of non-use, and two of the three
models have a dual power system featuring solar energy
and replaceable batteries. The frst three models to
be launched are the AS-8 (8-digit handheld model),
AS-120 (12-digit mini-desktop model) and AS-1200
