Flexibility
Providing both manual insertion and
automatic shredding, autofeed shredders
give customers the flexibility to cope
with unusual demands without tying up
staff time.
“A company might only require a
low-volume shredder for most of the
time, but then suddenly need to dispose
of larger quantities, such as a quarterly
report. In this instance, an autofeeder
would be ideal,” explained Crumpler.
Manual feeders that run in parallel
with the automatic feeder mean that
users can still use the shredders as walk-
up devices for the quick destruction of
small quantities of paper and CDs, DVDs
and credit cards – in some cases, even
when the auto-feeder is in operation.
Rising sales
These benefits have encouraged
businesses of all sizes to switch to
autofeed shredders. Today, autofeed
models account for 35% of Acco
shredder sales, and this figure is expected
to rise, as Acco develops its range
and more people are made aware of
the benefits.
Acco European marketing
executive Rory Morgan said: “As
GFK data shows, businesses are
willing to pay extra for automatic
shredding. The time-saving benefit is
key. However, other technologies in
the products are also proving successful,
such as Jam Free technology in the
manual slot, which prevents too many
sheets going in and causing a jam; the
ability of the shredder to cope with
staples, paperclips, CDs and cards; the
auto-oiling feature, which means you
just need to keep oil levels topped up for
the machine to regulate itself; and the
security PIN on selected models where
you can lock the chamber to prevent
others getting to documents not yet
shredded while you are away from the
machine.”
Crumpler is equally bullish about
the prospects of autofeed shredders.
“Businesses increasingly recognise the
inherent benefits of using autofeed
shredders. Think of the incredible savings
on cost; reductions in wasted staff time,
leading to an increase in productivity;
and giving your company 100% control
over the handling of important and
confidential data, and it is clear why
autofeed is the buzz phrase for the future
of successful business,” she said.
