Stand out with 3D
Océ is urging customers to
add a new dimension to their
marketing activities by using
its ‘3D Film Pure’ media
to increase the impact of
advertisements.
Dominic Fahy, Océ UK’s
Director of Display Graphics
and Imaging Supplies,
argues that because people
have developed an ability to
screen out most of the 5,000
advertising messages they see
each day, businesses must
work harder to get noticed.
One way to do this, he
suggests, is to print graphics
in 3D.
“According to a number of
studies, the third dimension
influences the psychological
impact of viewers in terms of
realism, power and presence.
Our minds are not used to this
new dimension and therefore
instinctively try to make sense
of the images in front of us,”
he said.
“Our sub-conscious pays
attention, our conscience
becomes aware and we take
note of the content because
it is presented in a way we
are not used to and have not
learnt to screen out. Ultimately,
if you want to stand out from
the crowd, get noticed and be
unique, 3D advertising is the
way forward.”
Nuance has integrated
Equitrac print management
and cost recovery with the
PrinterOn Enterprise mobile
printing solution, enabling
customers to enjoy the
benefits of mobile printing
while retaining the ability to
control, track and account for
print activity.
The combined solution
makes it possible for an
enterprise to implement a
mobile print strategy without
disrupting the existing network
print environment and is
designed to work with all
mobile device platforms and
any printer or MFP brand.
It allows users to select
from a variety of print options
including email, mobile
apps, web printing portals
and Windows laptops (via
the PrintWhere universal
driver) and supports Follow
You printing and secure print
release at the print device of a
user’s choosing.
Equitrac software can track
and manage print, copy, fax
and scan activity for virtually
any MFP or printer brand.
Under the terms of its
agreement with PrinterOn,

The new version of PrinterOn
Enterprise offers secure,
authenticated printing from any
device to any printer inside or
outside the corporate network
regardless of its geographic
location. Enhancements to
version 1.9 include support for
LDAP and Active Directory user
authentication so that mobile
printing can be tracked within
organisations like any other print
job; and a new API that simplifies
the exchange of advanced
job-tracking information with
print management solutions
from Equitrac, Pharos, PaperCut
and Ricoh. A connector for SAP
enables users of SAP to print
to remote printers using the
standard print process within
their SAP environment.

Cost savings still primary driver for MPS
Despite efforts by vendors
to promote managed print
services (MPS) as a solution
to big data, process efficiency
and data security, European
businesses still view cost
reduction as the main benefit
of an MPS, according to a
pan-European study from
Kyocera Document Solutions
(Managed Document Services
in Europe)
.
Seven out of 10 IT managers
surveyed by Loudhouse cited
cost-cutting as the main benefit,
followed by speedier operating
procedures (52%) and better
cost transparency (47%).
Almost two thirds (64%) of
respondents had optimised
their print and copy processes
within the last two years, but
only 12% did so to enable
them to implement software
solutions. Even so, solutions are
becoming more important, with
38% of IT managers regarding
automation of business
processes as having the largest
effect on cost reduction.
Environmental factors
continue to influence IT
investment choices: 87% of IT
managers said they would like
to lower energy consumption,
70% want to shrink their carbon
footprint and 81% want to
reduce waste.

Not so green
after all
Indifferent employees are
costing businesses millions
of pounds a year by showing
a lack of interest in green
practices in the office,
according to research from
stationery supplier Banner
Business Services. Its survey
of 1,000 companies found
that 29.1% of employees still
fail to print on both sides of
the page.
