PrintIT - Spring 2015 - page 8

Imagine if instead of making selections on a printer driver or
MFP screen you could just talk to your device.
The notion of using
speech to control
copiers and printers
has been a dream for
a number of years. But
new research suggests
it is already out of date.
IEEE’s international
Internet of Things
survey shows that
today people are more
excited by the idea of
using mind control to complete everyday tasks.
Globally, more than one third (35%) of 3,000 people surveyed
said that by 2025 they would like to use mind control to open their
front door, operate kitchen appliances and turn their lights on and
off. In all three instances mind control was preferred to manual
operation, smartphone control or sensors.
UK consumers are a little behind the pace, with twice as many
choosing biometrics over mind control to open doors (40% vs.
20%), and a slightly larger proportion preferring to cook manually
than mentally (33% vs. 13%).
The survey also asked about driverless cars currently being
trialled on UK streets. Almost two thirds (65%) of UK consumers
said that in the future they would be happy to let their cars do the
driving, compared to 55% globally.
The Danwood Group has
established a 43-person
Customer Care Team as part
of a £5 million commitment
to improve customer service
and meet guaranteed service
commitments made in a new
customer charter.
The main focus of Danwood’s
Customer Care Team is to
resolve incoming enquiries to
the complete satisfaction of the
customer. Each enquiry will be
allocated a dedicated customer
care team representative, who
will keep the customer informed
of developments. Cases will only
be closed when the customer is
100% satisfied.
As well as handling
inbound enquiries, Danwood’s
Customer Care Team has clear
targets to contact each of its
17,500 customers every few
months, with the objective
of forging stronger client
relationships, developing
a closer understanding of
customer needs and identifying
issues before they become
problematic. The team is
currently contacting 450
customers daily.
Steve Francis, CEO of
Danwood, said: “Customers just
want to have trust in their print
and document services supplier.
So our overriding objective is
to simply put the customer first
and deliver on our promises to
them. We are already seeing
a hugely positive response
from our customers to this new
programme.”
Sharp introduces accounting on OSA MFPs
Sharp has launched a new job accounting solution that makes it
easier for Sharp customers to monitor and recover printing costs.
Designed for Sharp OSA 3.0-enabled
MFPs, Job Accounting II (MX-SW310) allows
businesses to track, record and analyse
employees’ MFP use. It also gives
more control, for example by restricting
access to copier and scanner settings
and by imposing usage limits and
credit controls.
Two optional modules add extra
functionality, including secure print
release (the MX-SW311) and the
ability to charge clients directly
from a Sharp MFP (the MX-SW312).
Olivetti takes on Equitrac
Olivetti has strengthened its managed print services (MPS)
offering for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) by
becoming a Nuance Expert Partner. Print management solutions
available from qualifying Olivetti dealers now includes Nuance
Equitrac, as well as YSoft SafeQ 5.
Mobility and security combined
The new version (Version 7.4)
of the Cortado Corporate
Server enterprise mobility
solution combines enterprise
mobility with secure mobile
iOS printing on any network
printer.
It does this by marrying
Personal Printer technology,
already integrated into the
solution, with Cortado’s native
iOS printing, which enables any
printer to be used via AirPrint.
All the user has to do is
select the Personal Printer
from any iOS app, via the
AirPrint print dialog box, and
authenticate their identity by
scanning the QR code fixed to
the printer of their choice. Only
then will the print be output.
Kristin Montag, chief
product officer of Cortado
Mobile Solutions, said: “With
the implementation of secure
native iOS printing, AirPrint
becomes extremely easy.
User-authenticated printing
works from any app and with
any printer. That saves money,
increases productivity and
guarantees security.”
