SCANNERS
Two business wins with a
combined value of £1 million,
including a contract to digitise 18
million documents for Virgin Care,
has prompted scanning bureau
Cleardata to invest in two new
Kodak i5850S scanners.
Already the largest single-site
user of Kodak Alaris scanners in
the UK, Cleardata is also the first
UK organisation to pre-order two
of the company’s new production
scanners, continuing a tradition
started four years ago when it
became the first UK organisation
to take delivery of a Kodak i5000
Series scanner.
Introduced in November 2016,
the i5850S Scanner is the latest
addition to the i5000 series. With
processing speeds of 210 pages
(420 images) per minute and
smart three-pocket sorting, it is
designed to meet the needs of
service bureaus, business process
outsourcers, corporate mailrooms
and other high volume users.
Zurich International Life cuts process
times by 80% with Kodak Alaris high
performance scanners backed by local
service and support
Part of the Zurich Insurance Group, Zurich
International Life provides individual
savings, investment and protection
products throughout the Middle East, with
branches in Bahrain, Hong Kong, Qatar
and the United Arab Emirates.
Two years ago it upgraded its
document capture capabilities with 10
Kodak i3400 Scanners backed by a
two-year service and support package
offering on-site service, Advanced Unit
Replacement, 24x7 8-hour response
times and preventative maintenance.
Two years on, Mr Ramesh
Ramakrishnan, Zurich International
Life’s Head of IT for the Middle East,
has signed a one-year extension to the
service contract and remains delighted
with the productivity benefits and
enhanced customer service that the
Kodak Alaris scanners make possible.
In particular, he estimates that using
scanners to automate processes can
cut workloads by as much as 80%,
especially in the case of life insurance
policy applications that involve a large
number of supporting documents.
“The moment you receive an
application form it should get scanned
automatically and then be fed into the
imaging and workflow system. It then
gets assessed and once accepted,
a policy document will be generated.
Providing high-end service means
reducing that end-to end process
journey,” Ramakrishnan explained.
Zurich International Life chose Kodak
Alaris as its scanner supplier based
on prior experience with the company
and the recommendations of systems
integrators and IT vendor partners.
Another key factor was the support
provided by Kodak Alaris engineers,
which ensures that Zurich International
Life’s document processes always
operate at peak efficiency.
“The service standards at Kodak
Alaris are very high,” said Ramakrishnan.
“Our experience using Kodak Alaris
scanners has been great! The scanners
do everything that is expected. They are
very durable and have great brand value.
We’ve never had any issues and hardly
spend any time on it. Once you install
the system and implement the solution,
its ‘on’ and that’s it.”

This makes it an ideal fit for
Cleardata, which already captures
more than four million images
every month and has a history
of expanding capacity to handle
continuing business growth. The
company recorded a 22% increase in
turnover last year and is on track to
grow revenues by one-third this year.
Managing Director David Bryce
said: “Our rolling investment strategy
designed to deliver additional
capability and improve productivity
has paid dividends over the years.
In a market where margins are tight
and the ability to provide value-add
specialist services and capabilities
is key, we see our commitment
to purchasing the very latest
technology as a key differentiator.”
The addition of two i5850S
Scanners brings the number of
units in Cleardata’s fleet to 15 and
provides the extra capacity needed
to support the company’s growth
trajectory and continue to meet

(SLAs).
“One of the key drivers behind
this latest investment was a new
contract to digitise some 18 million
documents for Virgin Care. With the
new scanners, we will easily power
through that,” said Bryce.
Cleardata’s fleet of Kodak
Alaris document scanners is
complemented with Kodak Capture
Pro Software, a complete batch
capture software application
offering data extraction and
delivery to repository and business
applications. Capture Pro Software
is engineered to work seamlessly
with any scanner from Kodak Alaris.
Bryce added: “In our business,
we need to ensure we have the right
hardware, software and manpower
in place. With Kodak Alaris as a
technology partner, our business is
future-proofed. As a single-vendor
bureau, we have optimised our
in-house resource via a single user
interface, a common look and feel
and one software solution, making it
easy for staff to move from device to
device without the need to re-train.”
