HyPAS apps also reduce the number
of steps required to access a feature
or carry out a certain task. This makes
devices much easier to use and can
have a big impact on business efficiency
and productivity especially when using
ScanNow Plus to scan documents into a
pre-defined workflow.
A world of opportunities
KYOCERA currently has a portfolio of
fifteen solutions. These address general

is adding new apps all the time and
also has a developer programme that
enables partners, customers and software
developers to create HyPAS apps of their
own.

and simplicity of HyPAS apps makes
them particularly suitable for small and
medium-sized businesses that have the
same need to control costs and improve
business efficiency as enterprises, but
have far fewer resources with which to
do it.
“All our HyPAS business applications
are designed to improve efficiencies,
streamline workflows and save time
and money for SMEs. For example,
Print & Follow is a basic version of
other solutions like Papercut designed
for environments where they need
secure print but don’t want to make
the investment that Papercut and other
solutions require. HyPAS apps really lend
themselves to the SME environment,”
she said.
Because HyPAS apps are embedded
on the device itself, most require
no additional hardware or software,
although some like KYOCERA SharePoint
Connector are designed to communicate
with an external server. This and
KYOCERA’s licensing strategy make them
very affordable.
“Certain applications are free,
but generally you pay for a licence,”
explainedWhite. “Whilst enterprise
solutions are normally licensed on
the amount of users you have, HyPAS
applications are charged per device.
No matter how many people you have
using a device, you only pay for that
one licence. The price applications
are charged at depends on their
functionality: some are around the £100
mark while others are at £750.”
Free 30-day trials enable customers
to install an app on a device and try it
out before deciding to buy.

Teaching Assistant is a highly
focused app that speeds up the
creation and marking of multiple
choice tests so that teachers can
spend less time marking and more
time with their pupils.
KYOCERA estimates that Teaching
Assistant can save a typical primary
school teacher 30-60 minutes per test,
whilst also eliminating marking errors
and making it easier to assess the
performance and progress of individual
pupils and an entire class.
The app automates three key
processes and, because it is embedded
on an MFP, everything can be done at
the device itself:

The creation and printing of
multiple choice tests.
Just enter
questions and the choice of
answers via the control panel and
Teaching Assistant will print off the
required number of copies including
a master sheet marked with a
barcode label;

The scanning and marking of
tests.
Once a multiple choice
test has been completed, scan in
the master sheet with the correct
answers, followed by pupils’ test
sheets. Teaching Assistant will
automatically correct and mark
each scanned test.

The production of individual
and class reports.
With just one
click, Teaching Assistant produces
summary and detailed test reports
including statistics, bar charts and
histograms.
Results and test reports can be
printed on the spot, saved to a USB
flash drive or emailed. Once the
teacher logs out of the app, all data
relating to a test is automatically
cleared from the device to maintain
confidentiality.
