BALLPOINT MECHANICAL PENCIL
Multi-function
Offce products shows have had a chequered history in the
UK. Trade-focused events organised by wholesalers, like the
Spicers SOS Show (now relaunched as the 'Everything for the
Offce Show') are still busy and popular. Indeed, Spicers has
moved the show which takes place on December 8-9 to a
new venue (the Ricoh Arena in Coventry) to accommodate an
estimated 100 plus exhibitors. On the other side of the coin,
events targeted at end users and corporate purchasers have
proved far less successful. The demise of the Offce Products
Show, one half of the SOPX Show held for the last two
years at the Business Design Centre in April, is just the latest
example of an event that promised much but in the end
failed to deliver. Let's hope this month's offce* show –
a new exhibition targeted at stationery purchasers – is more
successful. Levels of innovation in the offce products industry
may have tailed off in the last few years, but there are still
products that are worth shouting about. The UK needs a
platform where stationery manufacturers and resellers can
promote them and where stationery buyers can experience
them at frst hand.

Every lap should
have one!
We featured the
Lapdesk in Business
Info earlier this year
and have been using it ever since.
So impressed are we with the
product that we feel it deserves
another mention and a Pen To Paper
Editor's Choice award.
The main purpose of the Lapdesk
is as a conference folder – but not
just any conference folder. Inside
are two fold-up faps that raise one
side of the folder, turning it into an
angled writing surface that provides
a much more comfortable (and
sturdy) platform than one's knees
when taking notes in conferences
and seminars where there are no
desks to lean on.
This may be its primary purpose,
but it is far from its only one.
I also use the Lapdesk as a briefcase
(it has a comfortable handle); as
a laptop stand; and as a platform
for a keyboard if I am typing while
leaning back or reclining in a more
comfortable chair.
The Lapdesk is available from
Hebden Design and costs £34.99.
Discounts are available for orders of
two or more.
