Versatile by design
KODAK i3000Series Scanners are
designed tohandlebatchandday-to-
day scanning requirements inpaper
dependent departments, suchas
finance, sales,operations andHR, as
well as paper intensive industries like
healthcare, law, bankingand insurance.
The fourmodels in the range combine
a small footprint of 43cm x 37cmwith
fast scanning speeds of up to90 pages
perminute at 300 dpi and exceptional
versatility.
This is especially true of the space-
saving i3250 and i3450models,which,
using a designfirst seenon the KODAK
i2900workgroup scanner, offer both
A3 rotary scanning andA4 book edge
flatbed scanning inone integratedunit.
The former can be usedwith a
250-sheet automatic document feeder,
for scanning batches ofmixed size
documents that are stackedneatly in
anoutput tray, or via a straight-through
rear-exit paper path for thicker or longer
documents up to4.1metres in length.
The flatbed is ideal for scanning
exception items, such as passports and
torn, fragile or stapled documents, aswell
as file folders, book pages andmagazines.
Because it scans right to the edge of the
platen, the flatbed can scan the full width
of a page, speeding up the scanning of
bound documents and producing higher
quality, distortion-free scans.
The integratedflatbedhas a
maximum scan size ofA4,which
KodakAlaris says is sufficient for the
overwhelmingmajority of exception
items. For organisations that requireA3
flatbed scanning, there is the optionof a
tetheredA3flatbed.
Other accessories include a post-
scan imprinter that stamps scanned
documentswith a customisable
reference, date or code.
The scanners comewith freeCapture
Pro Limited Edition imaging software,
which provides barcode reading, drag and
dropOCR for improved indexing, full text
OCR to create searchable PDFs, PDF/A
support, batch separation and direct
connectivity intoMicrosoft SharePoint
2013. Users canupgrade to the full
versionof Capture Prowithout having to
change the user interface.

AgriaPet Insurancehas purchased
aKODAK i4600Scanner and
KODAKCaptureProSoftware to
digitiseall paperwork received in
itsUK claims department
Agria Pet Insurance, theworld’s
largest pet insurer,was founded in
Sweden130 years ago and entered
theUK in2009. Last year, itsUK
operation administered policies for
150,000 cats and dogs, processed
75,000 claims and paidout £20
million toBritish pet owners.
Inorder tomeet its commitment
to process claimswithinfive days
of receipt,Agria Pet Insurance
consideredoutsourcing the scanning
of claims paperwork to a third party,
but after looking at its options
decided to do the scanning in-house
and store paperwork off-site.
Initially, it used a KODAK Scan
Station500Network Scanner but
the volume of scanning
involvedmeant that
it soonupgraded to a
mid-volume KODAK
i4600 Scanner,which
has a scan speedof 120
pages perminute and
a scanning capacity of
50,000 pages per day.
It also invested inKODAK
Capture Pro Software to
streamline scan processing. Claim
forms are sent outwith a barcode
linking eachone to a pet’s name,
policy number, owner and address.
When forms are returned, a separator
sheet is used to split each batchof
paperwork into individual claims
that are automatically recognised by
KODAKCapture Pro .
Michael Rodrigues,Agria Pet
Insurance’s infrastructuremanager,
said:“The KODAKCapture Pro
Software reads the barcode and
automatically creates a PDFwhich
then populates our in-houseCRM
system calledDarwin.Wemight have
100 pages related to70 claims, so
this function is absolutely invaluable
to removemanual input and enhance
operator productivity.”
Now,Agria’s 20 assessors can
access claims forms and all related
information, such as details of a
policy’s excess, howmany pets an
individual has insured, claimsmade,
contact information, correspondence
etc., digitally through the same system.
This has brought numerous
benefits, from faster claims processing
and instant retrieval of historic data
to a neaterworking environment and
happier customers, as KodakAlarisUK
salesmanagerNeilMurphy explains:
“Scanning paperwork is assistingAgria
Pet Insurance enhance its customer
service, improvingworkplace
efficiency andultimately speeding up
claims turnaround, as paperwork is
available through its CRM system for
all assessors to see,”he said.
