and a device’s built-in camera
to convert copy from books,
brochures and documents into

text and the app will stream
words onto the iPhone screen.
Once the process is complete,
converted text can be shared
with others through mail,

also store texts as PDF, TXT or
PNG files. The full version of

also a free version with limited

projectors.
The PPX 3610 comes with integratedWiFi

Instead of having to remember
long convoluted passwords or
PINs, how much more convenient
just to speak to a device to
gain secure access to services,
documents and data.
This is the vision of Nuance, a
leader in speech recognition and voice
control software, and it is already
transforming the authentication
experience and alleviating widespread
dissatisfaction with PINs, passwords,
and security questions.
The next generation of the
company’s biometrics platform,
which securely identifies each
individual through their unique
voiceprint, allows spoken phrases to
be used for authentication via any
contact channel – call centre, IVR,
mobile app or online.
Nuance claims that its
technology enables customers to
deploy a more natural authentication
process in enterprises and customer
service environments that also offers
superior detection of fraudsters.
Already, organisations such as
Barclays Wealth, TDWaterhouse,
Eastern Bank, Vanguard, Turkcell and
T-Mobile have deployed Nuance voice
biometrics and the market is on target
to grow at a CAGR of 35% over the
next 5 years (source: Opus Research)
as solutions move beyond the contact
centre and into new applications and
environments, such as mobile device
authentication; SmartTV access and
personalisation; and authentication
for medical professionals to access
patient records.
Robert Weideman, general
manager and executive vice president
of Nuance Enterprise, said: “The
acceptance of voice biometrics is
accelerating and has become one
of the hottest areas of our business.
In just the past two years, the total
number of consumers who have
enrolled voiceprints with banks, mobile
providers and other organisations has
tripled from 10 million to 30 million.
Organisations recognise that by
providing the natural voice interface
and high level of security that voice
biometrics affords – right at the point
of authentication – they can deliver
a much more compelling experience
to their consumers, with enhanced
security.”
The latest voice biometrics
release from Nuance boasts a 50%
improvement in accuracy and
enhancements in its ability to detect
attempts by malicious individuals
to bypass authentication, resulting
in reduced average call times,
improved customer satisfaction and
cost-savings from the elimination of
tokens, scanners and other security
hardware.
