CartRegen system. Because refilling is
cheaper for Evojet than supplying brand
new cartridges, it is able to pass savings
on to resellers in the form of higher
margins for refilled cartridges and an even
lower cost per page for customers of just
1p per colour print.
Evojet Office was launched in the
UK in December and already has a
few customers including schools and
exhibition companies where speed of
output is the main requirement – it has
zero warm-up time, a first print out speed
of 5 seconds and a drying time of less
than 1 second, meaning that the ink is dry
as it comes out of the printer. For more
general use, it does have its weaknesses:
duplex is manual – “It is unable to turn
the page at 60 pages per minute. There
is the option in the future of slowing
the engine down, but for the time being
speed is the main selling point,” Evojet
Direct UK channel sales director Adrian
Rollin explained – and to get the best
quality you need special paper.
This is one reason why Memjet
appointed Russian paper company
Lomond as its distributor, viewing the
printer and Lomond Matt paper (£55 for
a supply of 2,000 sheets) as the perfect
bundle.

Diversification
Fellowes can normally be relied upon to
unveil innovative new features to boost
demand for office machines. This year, it
adopted an alternative route to growth:
diversification.
Like other office products suppliers,
distributors and dealers, Fellowes is
eyeing up the FM market as a new source
of revenue. It already offers cleaning
products in this space and at Paperworld
expanded its FM offering with the launch
of a new series of air purifiers.

Steve Plaistowe told

that
although the air purifier market was still
in its infancy, it had real potential for
growth.
“In the US the air purification market
is worth $293 million, whereas in the
UK it is worth just £1.8 million, and
all of that is in retail, with the vast
majority accounted for by ionisers sold in
Mothercare for new babies,” he said.
Working on the principle that the US

Fisher Space Pen has struck a deal to distribute water-proof,
tree-free AllWrite notebooks in the UK. Being water-proof,
AllWrite ‘paper’ made from naturally occurri g calciu
carbonate (80%) and oil-based polyethylene (HDPE) is the
perfect match for Fisher Space Pens that can famously write
upside down, underwater and in zero gravity conditions.
AllWrite claims that after use the paper can be collected
with other plastic waste, granulated and used as an additive
in polyethylene products such as plastic bags and c ntainers.
It can also be incinerated, producing fewer CO
2
emissions
than paper made from trees.

market equates to approximately $1 per
head of population, Plaistowe believes
that the UK market has the potential to
grow by a factor of 20.
He is confident that Fellowes has the
expertise and persistence to drive demand
in offices and will succeed in establishing
a market where other companies such as
3M, Sharp and Bionaire have failed.
“When we launch a new category we
persist with it and create the market.We
did it a few years ago with the personal
shredder market: we created the personal
shredder market and we are now the
global leader,” he said.
He argues that a purchase price of
£325, which works out at about £1.20 per
week over five years (the period during
which machines are under warranty),
is a small price to pay to guarantee the
best possible indoor air quality. As well
as meeting employers’ legal obligations
relating to indoor air quality – “the air in
offices can be five times dirtier than the
air outside” – Plaistowe points out that
air purifiers can maintain productivity and
prevent the spread of colds, flu and other
airborne illnesses in offices.
To start with, Fellowes is launching
two PlasmaTrue models: a £325 model
suitable for cleaning areas with a
floorspace of 21 square metres (approx.
3-5 people) and a £375 version for 28
square metres (4-6 people).
