Atos’s five-year, £150m end user services contract to improve the quality and efficiency of DEFRA’s service desk, which manages 34,000 users, also includes a commitment to reduce e-waste and cut costs and carbon emissions through the repair, refurbishment and remanufacture of hardware. Each remanufactured laptop from Circular Computing saves about 316kg of carbon emissions, costs up to 40% less than brand new models and is guaranteed to perform ‘equal to or better than new’. Rod Neale, CEO of Circular Computing, said: “Atos’s partnership with DEFRA is a clear stepping stone towards wider inclusion of second-life IT within the public sector. It continues our collaborative approach with Atos to spread the word on remanufacturing and the benefits it presents. This announcement also strips away the notion that the public sector has no alternative to ‘brand new’. Through adopting remanufactured IT with guaranteed performance, DEFRA will be on course to cut their carbon emissions while ensuring cost savings and value for money.” Last summer, Circular Computing gained a 12.5% share of Ireland’s laptop market through a landmark deal with the Irish government. … Brivo’s new cloud-based unified security suite simplifies enterprise security management by integrating access control, video intelligence, visitor management and intrusion detection applications, credentials, data collection and analytics into one centralised platform.
