About one third of respondents evaluate their threat landscape either monthly (32%) or quarterly (35%), compared to just 11% who do it annually. The frequency with which respondents conduct disaster recovery simulations has also increased, with those carrying out simulations on a weekly basis up to 6%, from 2% in 2022, and on a monthly basis up to 16%, from 9% in 2022. By contrast, those carrying out simulations on an annual basis fell to 20%, from 25% in 2022. Those claiming not to carry out any simulations fell to 8% from 15% last year. Growth strategy When asked about their growth strategy for 2023, 61% of executives said offering new services was their top priority, followed by increasing sales and adding new logos (49%) and marketing (42%). Almost half (47%) of executives cited inadequate sales and marketing as their biggest hurdle when it comes to picking up new customers, identified as the main challenge facing MSPs by 35% of executives due to an increasingly competitive environment. Technicians’ top challenge, cited by 21%, is dealing with sophisticated security threats. About 51% of respondents said they are keen to participate in some form of M&A activity (up from 36% in 2022). Another 19% identified themselves as network- and data-center-focused, primarily overseeing servers, storage devices and other network components that keep businesses up and running. Managed security service providers (MSSPs) increased year over year to 18% of the respondent base. MSSPs specialize in delivering security solutions, such as risk assessments, vulnerability testing and threat monitoring, that keep businesses safe from cyberattacks. Executives comprised 37% of respondents while technicians made up the remaining 63%. This year, we segmented responses to questions between executives and technicians. MSP owners, partners, vice presidents and directors were classified under executives while managers, engineers, system administrators and technicians were grouped as technicians.
