Gary Saunders, Head of Solutions at The ICC Group He has a strong track record of building and leading teams to take cloud and Microsoft technologies to market and in recent years has delivered significant growth at two managed service businesses. With a head office in Wetherby, West Yorkshire and branch offices in Basingstoke, Castle Donington and Glasgow, ICC meets the needs of SME, enterprise and public sector customers across the UK. Its success to date has been based mainly on its hardware product and maintenance offering. Gary’s appointment will strengthen and expand its capabilities in next generation managed services. Commenting on his new role at ICC, Gary said: ‘’I am excited to have joined the ICC team. I am as fanatical about our prospective and existing customers as indeed they are themselves. I am committed to developing, implementing and supporting their business and IT strategies, irrespective of how they wish to consume. I demand this ethos from all individuals and the team I work with.’’ Gary Saunders is the new Head of Solutions at IT solutions provider The ICC Group. Appointed to develop and grow the company’s managed services division into a multi-million pound revenue business, Gary comes with more than 25 years’ experience in the IT industry. HOME OR OFFICE? A mixture of both. Home, because I believe I get more done there and it contributes well to my work-life balance. But I like being in the office, too, for the camaraderie of colleagues. I also like to be out and about, visiting partners and customers and spending time with my team. TOWN OR COUNTRY? I’d much rather live in the country. I used to be a town man, but I guess I’m getting old – it’s funny how you change your ways as you get older. Today, I enjoy a laid- back, quiet lifestyle in the country rather than the hustle and bustle of a city. An old-fashioned pub is much more my style than a cocktail bar! SAND OR SNOW? Always snow – I really don’t like sand and beaches. Even though I am not a skier, I love being out in the snow. I find it so peaceful. I lived in Colorado for three months one winter, which I loved, and it snowed all the time. WALK OR RUN? Walk. I’ve been walking a lot with the family during lockdown, and I’m looking forward to taking part in the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge with the ICC team at the end of May, in aid of Candlelighters. It’s going to be a tough walk, covering 25 miles, but it’s worth it to support a charity that provides such invaluable support to children fighting cancer. NIGHT OWL OR NESTER? Night owl, on the basis that I work stupid hours – if I can’t sleep, I’ll do some work. But at heart I’m a nester as I prefer a comfy pub with the family and a good pint of lager to going out properly! CAT OR DOG? Definitely dog, especially small dogs. We have a Yorkshire terrier crossed with a Pug, called Bree. She is so cute and tends to sleep with my youngest son. CAR OR BIKE? Car. I love cars and would never get on a motor or push bike. My ideal car would be a McLaren 570S (in my dreams). PAPER OR SCREEN? Paper. I print things off and I prefer reading a newspaper to reading online. It’s not very environmentally friendly, but it’s easier to read! SPOTIFY, CD, LP OR CASSETTE? CD. I’ve got loads of CDs. That said, I’ve just opened a Spotify account as my new car doesn’t have a CD player. I’m old school and I’m still trying to figure out how to download songs. NEW OR RECYCLED? I recycle where possible, to do my bit for the planet, and always make sure I use a bag for life. Q&A
