centre to save space in
landfill
A£250,000asphalt recycling centre
designed to slash thousandsof tonnesof
CO2 from roadandpavement surfacing
projectshasopened inBlunhamnear
Bedford.
The centrewas established byGreener
Surfacing after it secured funding ofmore
than£160,000 from asset finance specialist
Academy Leasing to invest inhot asphalt
recyclingmachinery.
NickAntrobus,managing director
of Greener Surfacing, said:“When road
resurfacingwork is carriedout, old asphalt
tends to be disposedof in local landfill sites
with large sums then being spent on fresh
virgin asphalt.The old asphalt cannow be
recycled and reused at amuch reduced
price, saving publicmoney, landfill issues
and costs andhelping councilsmeet their
carbon reduction targets.”

customers to savemoney on fuel and

Nordic Ecolabel has become the first
Ecolabel in theworld to demand a

it to validate that the smelters providingmetals used in
microprocessorsmade in its factories are not inadvertently
funding conflict in theDemocratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Streetlampof the future
Zero Site is a new type of connected street lamp
developed by Philips and Ericsson that provides a novel
way of enhancingmobile broadband coverage in cities
and ameans of funding energy-efficient LED lighting.
The pole design combines LED lightingwith space to
accommodate telecoms equipment from Ericsson that
city authorities can rent out tomobile network service
providers. Philips LED street lighting can generate energy
savings of 50-70%or up to80%when coupledwith
smart controls.
