to create a single stapled
and folded booklet from
multiple files including PDFs,
spreadsheets and PowerPoint
files. Designed for the non-
specialist office worker, it
boasts a clear user interface
with an attractive preview
feature that lets the user flip-
through the document to make
sure everything is in the right
place before printing. Pre-set
lay-outs, such as the Fiery
VUE ‘mini’ Green Book (four
pages per sheet printed on
both sides), format documents
in the most economical way,
helping to cut costs by up to
85%.
Fiery FreeForm is another
useful feature that lets users
create personalised documents
for true 1-to-1 marketing. A
simple variable data printing
(VDP) solution, it lets you
create a master form from a
variety of source applications
and combine it with variable
elements, such as names,
addresses, content and
images, so that documents
can be personalised for each
recipient.
Mobile Printing
The second major trend
addressed by EFI is mobile
printing. Office workers
today are more mobile
than ever. Developments in
communications and cloud
computing mean they no
longer need a PC and fixed
desk to carry out their jobs.
Often, all that’s required is a
smartphone/tablet and an
internet connection.
Employees have been quick
to spot the possibilities and,
with or without the blessing of
corporate IT departments, have
been quick to use personal
devices and consumer-oriented
cloud services for business
purposes. This has led to a
proliferation of Blackberrys,
iPhones/iPads, Android devices
and Windows phones/tablets in
the workplace, some provided
by the company and some by
employees themselves.
The BYOD trend raises a
number of questions, notably
how to provide mobile workers
with the support, security and
services enjoyed by users of
desktop PCs, including the
ability to print.
In spite of the opportunities
for paperless working, there
are many occasions when
you might want to print from
a smartphone or tablet: you
might need a hard copy of a
boarding pass or a document
for a customer’s signature;
or you might choose to print
because it’s easier to read a
large document on an A4 page
than on a small smartphone
screen.
All printer vendors have
developed mobile printing
solutions for their devices: EFI
Printers
itself has Fiery Direct Mobile
Printing, which makes it
possible to print directly from
an Apple iPhone/iPad to a Fiery-
enabled device over Wi-Fi; and
PrintMe on Fiery, which enables
users of notebook computers
or mobile devices with email
capability to print to certain
Ricoh, Canon, Konica Minolta
and Xerox devices via the cloud.
These are useful if printing
to or from a specific device. But
increasingly enterprises require
a more comprehensive solution
that enables their workers to
print securely from any mobile
device to any printer.
To meet this need, EFI has
developed a server-based
mobile printing solution called
EFI PrintMe Mobile, which:
n
lets users print from any
tablet, smartphone or laptop to
any make or model of printer;
n
prints PDFs, MS Office files
and web pages with no loss of
formatting;
n
lets you apply controls to
mobile users and specify which
print options are available for
each user or group of users;
n
integrates printing from
mobile devices with existing
print management and
accounting solutions, such
as Equitrac Office/Express or
PrintAudit; and
n
provides secure guest
printing.
EFI PrintMe Mobile
also satisfies the security
requirements of enterprise
IT departments: it plugs into
existing security policies; print
jobs stay inside the firewall;
and users are authenticated
against Active
Directory.
For maximum convenience,
it offers a choice of printing
methods:
Direct to Print via WiFi:
the
built-in print feature in iPads
and iPhones automatically
shows what printers are
available to print to as does the
Mac “Nearby Printers” feature.
Users of Android devices need
to download the free PrintMe
Mobile app;
Email to Print:
send an email
to a printer’s email address
published in the company
address book or near to
a printer. Both email and
attachment are printed; and
Secure release:
send the
document to the server where
it is held until a user releases
it by authenticating themselves
at the device of their choice.
For more than 20 years, EFI
has been providing solutions
that let customers get more
from their print devices. And it
continues to do so today. At a
time of great change in the print
market, our Fiery servers and
mobile printing solutions ensure
that today’s MFPs continue
to meet the evolving needs of
businesses large and small.
