Living up to the new slogan for its
printer business, ‘Samsung. Printing
Innovation’, the Korean giant chose
the IFA exhibition in Berlin to unveil
three new printer concepts created
for today’s smartphone/tablet
users.
Samsung already offers a number
of ways to make printing from
smartphones easier including the
Samsung Mobile Print app and support
for Google Cloud Print, WiFi Direct and NFC
printing (on the Xpress C460 Series of colour
lasers and the M2070 Series of mono
lasers).
Its new Wave concept offers
another connectivity option in
the form of a built-in smartphone
dock that enables direct printing
of content saved on a
smartphone. The Indie
combines a printer and
a mobile docking sound
system.
Its third concept,
the One & Only mono
laser printer, can take an
additional cartridge (cyan,
magenta or yellow) for spot
printing in a second colour.
Businesses can introduce
secure pull printing to
departments, such as
accounts, human resources
or research & development,
easily and cost-effectively
using a new bundle from
network specialist SEH and
Cortado, a leading vendor of
enterprise mobility and print
management solutions.
The TPR-10 Starter Pack
combines a ThinPrint Reader
TPR-10 for user authentication
at any make of network printer;
five smart cards; and a 5-user,
12 month license for Cortado’s
Personal Printing secure print
solution. Users can expand the
solution by adding more user
licenses, TPR-10s and printers.
The use of a ThinPrint
Reader TPR-10 and Cortado
Personal Printing ensures that
print-outs are only released and
picked up by authorised users
who authenticate themselves
at a printer using a supplied
contactless RFID smart card, an
alternative card already used by
the enterprise for identification
purposes or a BlackBerry,
Android or iPhone/iPad client.
Gartner analysts claim that
the introduction of pull printing
or follow me printing solutions
in enterprises cuts paper use
by 10% by eliminating waste
from unnecessary and repeat
printing.
Personal Printing also
eliminates driver problems
and administrative effort by
gathering all print jobs in one
queue.
The bundle is available to
new Cortado customers who,
upon purchase of a TPR-
10, register for the five-year
guarantee extension on the SEH
website.

Dot matrix printers join
mobile printing revolution
Reflecting the greater use of mobile devices
by today’s workers, Dascom has become
the first dot matrix printer manufacturer
to join the Cortado Cloud Printing Alliance.
The development will enable the company’s
customers in production, logistics and
warehousing to print from mobile devices
to dot matrix printers via the cloud. Users of
the free Cortado Workplace app or Cortado’s
enterprise solution, Cortado Corporate
Server, can now print from an iOS, Android or
Blackberry mobile device to the cloud-ready
Tally T2150/T2265+/T2280+/T2365/T2380

Sharp’s next generation
MFPs are designed to
be fully integrated with
office workflows and fully
supportive of modern
workstyles including
greater use of smartphones,
tablets, wireless
technologies and the cloud.
The MX-5141N, MX-
5140N, MX-4141N and
MX-4140N have colour/mono
print speeds of up to 51
pages per minute and come
with a large touchscreen
control panel, full internet
access and the ability to print
wirelessly from or scan to a
smart phone or tablet.
On top of this, they provide
all the productivity features
of previous Sharp MFPs
including workflow automation
powered by Sharp OSA; Adobe
PostScript 3; the option of
a fast document feeder; an
internal network-accessible
hard drive; a paper supply that
can grow to 6,600 sheets;
various finishing options; user
authentication; and secure
data encryption and erasure.
New evidence of the need for secure printing in offices is provided
by a survey from shredder manufacturer Fellowes, which reveals
that one in four employees (27%) finds
commercially sensitive documents left
in a printer. One in five (20%) finds
similar material in a photocopier or
scanner (20%). The survey highlights
the security risks posed by paper
documents in general, with payslips
(40%), staff contracts (22%) and
company or staff bank statements
(12%) all commonly left around for
others to see.
Brother’s new range of inkjet MFPs for home users includes the first
inkjet model to have an NFC (near field communication) printing
capability. Users can print from and scan to an NFC-enabled mobile
device simply by holding it up to the printer, which then makes a
direct connection through
Wi-Fi technology. The MFC-
J870DW also includes
USB, wired and wireless
network connectivity, as
well as smartphone and
tablet printing options
such as Google Cloud
Print and Apple AirPrint.
