If not for printing, what else can you use
your printer paper for?
1.
Dress making
Conqueror took to the catwalk at the Coronation
Festival held at Buckingham Palace on July 11-
14 when models showed off shimmering origami
dresses made entirely from paper. The Coronation
Festival organised by the Royal Warrant Holders
Association in the gardens of Buckingham Palace
included an exhibition of more than 200 suppliers
to the Royal Family and a 400-seat catwalk show
featuring spectacular outfits made from products
supplied by a selection of exhibitors. Talk Paper,
the office and business papers division of Antalis
and a Royal Warrant holder for more than 20
years, supplied Conqueror fine paper in a range of
thicknesses and sizes, which enabled up-and-coming
British designer Joey Bevan to create dresses with
both softly flowing and structural sections. Conqueror
Golden Haze Pearlescent gave the dresses a
luxurious sheen.
2.
3D printing
3D printers from Mcor Technologies don’t use plastic filament like
most other devices. Instead, the company’s Selective Deposition
Lamination (SDL) full colour 3D printing technology makes solid
durable, tactile models out of normal copier paper. New or used
sheets are cut to an accuracy of 0.1mm and bonded together to
create objects with wood-like durability. Because they are made from
paper, objects can be recycled and are also more economical to
produce. One Mcor customer, Vincennes University in Indiana, found
that it cost $35 in materials to create a pulley system on a plastics-
based 3D printer, but only $5 with a paper-based Mcor Matrix 3D
printer.

Printing moves
from the home to
the office
Four out of five employees
print personal documents
in the office rather than at
home, according to a survey
of 2,000 adults by Oki
Systems (UK). One in ten
does so every day.
The main reasons given
for using office machines
were not having a printer at
home (38%) and convenience
(37%). Another might be that
only 27% of respondents
said their company both had
and actively enforced a print
policy.
Printing is popular for
work purposes, too, with
92% printing daily and 45%
printing more than 10 pages
every day. The need to have
hard copies for evidential
purposes was given as a
reason for printing by 59% of
respondents.
Smartphone users are
adding to print volumes. One
in four respondents brings
their own phone and tablet to
the office and, of these, 45%
print from them to an office
printer.

Despite the rise of
electronic messaging, postal
communications have certain
qualities that give them an
advantage over digital media,
chartered psychologists
at London Metropolitan
University have found.
Avery-sponsored research
into how different groups
respond to an identical
message communicated
by letter and email found
that letters were considered
60% more engaging and
40% more trustworthy than
emails. Eighty-five per cent of
respondents said they read
letters more carefully than
emails and 80% find them
more persuasive. The study
also found that we are 40%
more likely to take action
and respond positively to
business propositions if they
are communicated by letter.
