With print volumes falling off a cliff, he led the initiative to support customers with extended finance terms – a move that for many, was the difference between success and failure. He also led a programme of ramped up service and support for those in particular need, to ensure customers kept up and running. Steve also worked closely with print industry trade association, the IPIA – as it lobbied the Government Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) for the expansion of business support packages and specifically the evolution of the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS). He drafted a comprehensive thesis explaining how money flows through the channel and supply chain, and strongly advocated for change within the CBILS grant scheme to support the print sector. This thesis was used a key piece of market analysis by BEIS and directly influenced the evolution of the scheme.
