01732 759725 50 AND FINALLY Chris Sills, Sales Director, SOS Systems 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? We are continuing to see strong performances in our sales function, however, supply chain issues definitely has the biggest effect on our ability to invoice out business. We are of course working with our partners to minimise the disruption. Pre-ordering and Increasing stock levels is just one of the ways we are working around this. Where do you see the next big opportunity? The business plans around the growth of our solutions function during the pandemic have exceeded our expectations, particularly within cloud printing and applications. The hunger we have to grow our sales function will inevitably create our biggest opportunity and we are focussed on attracting some of the best sales talent available to join our ever expanding team. What would make your day job easier? As a business, we have automated many of our processes. We have recently implemented DocuSign in our sales function for all of our approvals for expenses and deal submissions etc. Applying this to other areas of our business would undoubtedly make things easier and is something that our teams are currently looking at. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? This is where I’d refer to three great quotes that have stuck with me. 1 “Always handle the, what if?” 2 “Treat everybody with equal and the utmost respect” 3 “You only fail if you quit” What was your first job? I worked for a catering company in hospitality in Formula 1, which was an unbelievable experience which only now, I fully appreciate. What would be your dream job? I would have loved to have earned a living in motorsport. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? Curry and a pint. How do you like to spend your spare time? I don’t seem to get much downtime, with a very active and busy family and social life. When I do get a minute, I like to cook, or relax with a beer watching rugby or any kind of motor sport. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? Without doubt, a Porsche GT3 RS and I am personally fancying some of the open roads in North Scotland. Favourite holiday destination? At the moment, I am going to say the Greek Islands, Santorini in particular is my favourite place by far. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? At the end of the day, we have all done things that in hindsight, we would have done differently. I believe however, it is those mistakes that make and shape you and that you learn from, so generally I don’t live with regrets, and the past is something you cannot change. Describe your most embarrassing moment. In my early days, I delivered a photocopier to a big open plan office. The copier was being installed outside the directors’ offices. As I am lifting it, with my back to the main floor, there was an office full of staff watching. As I bent down, my trousers split, making a loud ripping sound... I will leave the rest to your imagination!!!! Chris Sills
