01732 759725 30 SUSTAINABILITY continued... is PCL Direct Group, one of the largest remanufacturers of printer consumables products in the UK and Europe, who is leveraging its expertise in toner cartridge and consumable units remanufacturing to upcycle used machines and give them a second life. A good choice for dealers In an exclusive interview with PrintIT Reseller, Sales and Marketing Director Andrew Ellis said that the company’s Eco-Direct line of remanufactured MFPs offers dealers another line in between a second-hand machine and a new one, and the end-user value for money, and obviously it helps retain profits for the dealers. In line with PCL Direct’s approach to remanufacturing consumables and cartridges, the Eco-Direct refurbishment process is both thorough and quality controlled. The company focuses on models that have been superseded with a new range. Most devices have a lifetime of one million prints, PCL typically takes in devices with between 150-300,000 prints on the meter and which still have a lot of life left in them. The future of eco-friendly printing DCI views refurbished printers and copiers as the future of eco‑friendly printing. It has also built on its roots as a printer cartridge remanufacturer and expanded its focus to refurbished printers. The company says its refurbished printers not only deliver exceptional performance but also represent a sustainable choice for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact. Each printer undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency, and in addition, all internal and external packaging for the recycled printers is FSC-certified and recyclable. The company says it remains dedicated to driving progress in sustainability and is actively exploring new methods and practices that will further enhance its eco‑friendly initiatives. Canon CU Range On the OEM side, at end-of-life, devices from Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE range are returned to vendors, who check if they’re suitable for refurbishment to extend their lifespan. Canon’s regional offices sort devices at end-of-life, and those suited to refurbishment will be taken to local facilities to be cleaned, repaired and tested. Only devices that have passed the rigorous testing and quality criteria can be sold under Canon’s Certified Used (CU) label. The CU Range includes a wide portfolio of devices, with both A4 and A3 formats and either colour or black and white options, without compromising on productivity, security and output quality. Canon says this approach opens the door to high quality printing for budget‑conscious businesses, as the device carries the Canon stamp of approval and guarantee of quality, whilst at the same time costs less than an equivalent new product. Circular-first MPS Agilico has adopted a circular-first approach to MPS engagements and whilst it does sell new MFPs, it leads with its Agilico Zero brand of refurbished devices. Managing Director Warren Colby told PrintIT Reseller that the company’s goal is to sell over 50% refurbished devices. “Our mantra is why do we sell new equipment when new equipment is not required all the time? The only reason we can do this is because we have the supply chain set up. We are currently sitting at around 41 per cent and we will keep increasing that number,” he said. Agilico has five locations nationwide where it refurbishes used MFPs and continues to scale up its remanufacturing capacity through agreements with OEMs to take back their aftermarket equipment too. Agilico typically takes back devices that are one range old, and cherry picks those which have no more than 20% of their life used, so they still have 80% of useful life left. It also offers customers a premium range – models with less than 5% of total life used. Agilico Zero devices come with the same warranty and the company’s service statistics show they are as reliable as any device it supplies in the field. The company operates zero waste to landfill, so any devices that are unusable in any way, shape, or form are stripped down and the components used as reconditioned parts for its existing customer base. Agilico is also engaging with recycling companies about re-using the ‘unusable’ plastic in new ways too. www.pcl-direct.com www.dci.co.uk www.canon.co.uk www.agilico.co.uk
