01732 759725 26 WHATÆS NEW In-built guillotine Brother has released its first A4 inkjet model that features an in-built guillotine that enables users to print in A5 without needing pre-cut paper, cutting A4 paper in half as it prints. The launch follows findings from Brother that revealed nearly half (46%) of inkjet users cut A4 paper into half before or after printing. Of people who cut A4 paper in half, more than 70% said they did so routinely, and half (51%) said that they did this because they found changing between A4 and A5 paper troublesome. The new device represents a sister model to Brother’s A4 Mini Regular inkjet series. As with the rest of the printers in the range, the DCP-J1800DW model offers print, copy and scan functionality with a 6.8cm LCD touchscreen, in addition to the precise and efficient A4 to A5 cutting feature. It also offers wireless connectivity and can be operated using the Brother Mobile Connect app. Brother UK’s Chief Commercial Officer Terry Caulfield said: “Our latest model offers users the best of A4 and A5 compatibility. It’s also our first model to feature an automatic guillotine. This represents our continued innovation in print technology, all to provide new opportunities for partners to connect with customers and to solve their requirements.” www.brother.co.uk New technology platform Canon has announced the imageFORCE C7165 multifunction printer powered by its newly developed imageFORCE technology platform which harnesses machine learning and artificial intelligence to support new levels of security, reliability, and quality for businesses. Incorporating D2 Exposure technology, the new imageFORCE C7165 uses organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) as the light source to greatly enhance the quality of printed materials – this allows the device to deliver better coloured prints, improved smoothness and enhanced text quality. In addition, the device delivers 4800dpi resolution imagery. The imageFORCE C7165 uses machine learning to enhance security. Through Canon’s security environment estimation technology, optimal security settings are recommended on the operation panel, making it easy to achieve a robust level of device security, especially for companies without expertise in house. It is also possible to detect when changes occur in real time to the network, notifying the user accordingly and minimising security vulnerabilities due to missed settings. The new imageFORCE C7165 also uses machine learning to support advanced maintenance, boost reliability and help support work continuity. Designed to be more sustainable the new model has been built using 30% recycled plastics and features innovative technology to track environmental performance and help organisations monitor their impact. For example, information is provided on paper usage and energy consumption to encourage more sustainable user behaviour. Khalid Aziz, Marketing Director, Digital Printing & Solutions, at Canon UK & Ireland said: “With major advancements disrupting ways of working – including cloud computing, and AI – organisations are looking to embrace innovation to drive new levels of productivity. As a result of these trends, and in line with the continual evolution of our portfolio to meet business needs, we have developed imageFORCE, a new technology platform which includes a wealth of pioneering innovations to empower organisations to grow and thrive, whilst helping them to be fully equipped for the future.” www.canon.co.uk LCD laser installation projector Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe has introduced the first LCD laser installation projector under the Sharp brand. The new model offers high brightness with a compact, silent and energy efficient design. The company says the Sharp A201U offers the widest LCD projector colour space in the industry and is the only LCD projector in the market to use an RB laser light source. It produces vivid reds, delivers excellent colour performance and projects images that are remarkably lifelike at 20KLm brightness and WUXGA resolution. The A201U features the latest IP5X-rated sealed optical engine which protects against even the finest dust particles. Brilliant colour brightness is maintained for long-lasting imaging performance with no filter cleaning. Users benefit from multiple lens options from the Sharp/NEC portfolio and compatibility with legacy lenses from the PA Series. www.sharpnecdisplays.eu Network flexibility and simplicity Zyxel Networks has launched a new Power-over-Ethernet extender, designed to help organisations overcome network deployment challenges over long distances and power limitations. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use, the PoE12-3PD is a cloud-managed device that enhances network flexibility for small and medium-sized businesses and managed service providers, making it easy for them to provide extended network connectivity to cover larger outdoor areas, across large internal floor spaces, in historical buildings, or over extended ranges without sufficient power outlets. The PoE12-3PD is a simple plug-and-play solution that transmits both data and power to the edge of networks. Capable of delivering a total power budget of up to 45W through three PoE+ downlink ports, it allows multiple PoE clients – such as IP cameras, access control systems, IoT devices and smart home devices and sensors that are typically installed outdoors or in the hard‑to-reach corners of a building – to be connected. www.zyxel.com
