50 RISING STAR Victoria Howarth, Channel Marketing Assistant, Brother UK 60 seconds with… When did you first join the print sector and what attracted you? I started my career in print in January of 2023, after graduating University with a PR & Marketing degree. I had of course heard of Brother and even used their printers at home. The job description sounded like everything I wanted, and it still is to this day. The print industry is so exciting, and I have had some amazing opportunities in just a year. What do you enjoy most about your job? I love collaborating and working with different colleagues on every project. It’s great, not just because I get to learn from experts in all sorts of areas, but also because it helped me settle in straight away and make friends really quickly. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? It sounds simple but the best advice I’ve been given is to prioritise. A job list can look intimidating, especially on a Monday morning, so I like to take 10 minutes at the start of everyday to write my day’s to-do list, in order of importance. Anything that is less urgent can be pushed later in the day or the week. What would make your day job easier? Anything that helps me to save all my notes and files. It’s organised chaos! But I’m getting more disciplined with my organisation by making the most of tools like SharePoint. Which company do you most admire outside of our industry? I really love the story behind Liquid Death. The owner Mike Cessario took his love for comedy, punk music and skateboarding and used it to create a completely unique beverage brand, and it’s gone on to sponsor some of the most popular comedy podcasts in the world. Water in a can is also much easier to recycle. Sustainability should always be a big part of businesses’ plans, like it is at Brother. What excites you most about the future? In channel marketing, no day is the same. We are constantly taking on new projects and I always have an opportunity to grow my skill set. I have learned so much so far at Brother, so I am excited to see what I’m capable of. PRINT IT RESELLER MAGAZINE RISING STARS Victoria Howarth Early bird or night owl? Early bird. I look forward to my coffee and bacon sandwich for breakfast every day. Favourite app and why? My favourite app is probably Instagram. I like to use it as a photo diary to look back at memories, and it’s also a great platform to work with influencers. For example, we’ve been working with Dilly Carter to showcase our labelling devices through relatable home organisation content. One screen, two or more? I’m pretty old school and like to have just one screen and a notebook by my side. Unless I’m working out of a spreadsheet, when the more screens I have the better! Favourite quote / motto? If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you’re not sure you can do it, say ‘yes’ and learn how to do it later. You’ll never build confidence without actually doing the job at hand and stepping out of your comfort zone. You just need to remember that the skills can come on the job! Last film you watched? Twilight! It’s my number one comfort film. But I’m pretty much a sucker for anything with vampires and Robert Pattinson. How do you like to spend your spare time? My new year’s resolutions were to read a book a month – I’m currently working through the Bridget Jones Diaries – and to make more of my own jewellery. I love having unique pieces, and have also been inspired by people like Helen Colebrook, who’s making her own vision boards and even using Brother devices to create cute, artsy crafts like a homemade recipe book.
