PRINTITRESELLER.UK 43 VOX POP Telenor IoT’s annual IoT Predictions Report for 2024 explores how the strategic integration of artificial intelligence and the internet of things (IoT) is reshaping industries Produced for decision-makers and professionals curious about the trends influencing industries and society, each IoT Predictions report provides insights on the future of IoT. The new report, co-produced with Omdia and titled: ‘Navigating the Perfect Storm: AIoT to Emerge as the Defining Enabler of Digital Transformation’ explains how combining artificial intelligence and IoT, also known as AIoT or AI4IoT, is necessary for companies to stay competitive in today’s digital world. As IoT applications generate a tremendous quantity of data, many enterprises struggle to effectively analyse and extract meaningful insights from it. Simply collecting data does not bring value, and human intelligence can’t process the information as efficiently as AI. With the support of AI, applications become smarter and more autonomous. Convergence unlocks efficiencies This convergence unlocks higher operational efficiencies, better customer experience, and higher productivity gains across diverse sectors, from automotive and industrial manufacturing to transport, utilities, and smart cities. This combination can turn simple solutions into those with greater impact and value. Predictive maintenance, robotics improvement, and enhanced in-car experiences are examples of great use cases for AIoT. “We predict AIoT will grow to become the cornerstone of digital transformation,” says Mats Lundquist, CEO at Telenor Connexion and Head of Telenor IoT. “The convergence of AI and IoT isn’t just an evolution; it’s a revolution in how businesses operate and compete globally. This report emphasises the urgency to act now.” This report serves as a compass for businesses navigating the ever-evolving digital ecosystem, providing actionable insights into the transformative potential of AIoT. Factors driving AIoT adoption in 2024 n Competitive Dynamics. Over 48 per cent of enterprises prioritise AI/ML in IoT deployments, according to the Omdia IoT Enterprise Survey. n Hardware Advancements. Advances in semiconductor technology, including AI Edge processors, are driving greater computing power for AI integration. n AI Model Optimisation. Efforts to minimise AI model size, known as TinyML, is enabling increased use of AI in IoT applications. n Generative AI (GenAI). 38 per cent of respondents in Omdia’s 2024 IT Enterprise Insights reported that they had either already fully adopted generative AI or were implementing it. Only 10 per cent said they had no interest in generative AI. https://iot.telenor.com AIoT is key driver for digital transformation “It’s essential channel partners acknowledge the importance of using AI in business processes. This understanding will enable them to effectively support their clients in their use of this technology, suggesting products and solutions that leverage AI to streamline and create efficiencies. “Print volumes continue to decline, and hybrid working is now embedded, meaning the workplace and the technology in it continues to change. As such vendors and partners will be looking to continue to diversify their portfolio offering. Therefore, having an awareness of how AI is being leveraged throughout print, document and print management software will be critical to ensure they can clearly articulate to clients the benefit of such technologies. “In addition, vendors and partners should also be looking at how they can use AI within their own business. Not only will this help them streamline their own processes, but it will also support them in propositioning the benefits of this technology to their own clients. “Like most businesses we are investigating how the adoption of AI technologies will improve our own business processers, security, and productivity. We are doing this across all areas, for example within our service operations, we are leveraging AI to provide timely and effective toner replenishment based on usage and coverage data. In addition, we also have an AI Acceptable Use Policy to ensure we are using such technology appropriately and securely. “Across our IT services we are supporting our clients in leveraging Microsoft Copilot, leading the conversation about how our clients can use it to its full potential. Our latest webinar, Microsoft Copilot – Your Everyday AI Companion, explored this topic in full.” www.sharp.co.uk Juian Hodges Having an awareness of how AI is being leveraged throughout print, document and print management software will be critical
