01732 759725 SUSTAINABILITY 34 TD SYNNEX has announced an updated strategy for its services business unit that places the focus firmly on driving the circular economy with partners and ensuring they can meet the growing demands of their end-user customers for more sustainable choices Driving the circular economy we will be ready to support them in delivering on customer expectations and maximising the potential.” Net zero academy One new value-added service is the net zero academy – a three day course that will enable partners – or any other channel company – to conduct a full assessment of their own carbon impact and to formulate and execute a plan to move their business towards net zero carbon. The net zero academy consists of two days spent in the classroom at TD SYNNEX’s offices in Basingstoke and a further day of home or office-based learning and assessment. The course will be accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and delivered by specialist consultancy, Arete Zero Carbon. While TD SYNNEX and Arete Zero Carbon already offer a full net zero carbon assessment service to partners, the net zero academy provides a more accessible option. Partners that attend the course will be able to get specialist expert support from TD SYNNEX and Arete as they conduct their assessments and formulate their plans. Move towards net zero “The net zero academy will give channel partners a simple, quick and effective way to acquire the knowledge they need to take ownership of their responsibility to reduce their carbon emissions,” explained Haywood-Atkinson. “It will equip them to make a proper carbon assessment of their own business and set out a realistic plan to reduce emissions – based on recognised industry standards – and move towards net zero.” She continued: “That’s increasingly important now as customers are looking much harder at the commitment of their suppliers to sustainability. Regulations and directives such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the NHS PPN 06/21 directive, for example, are starting to come into force. Businesses that do not meet these requirements could find themselves at a significant competitive disadvantage.” Covering the fundamentals Each three-day Net Zero Academy will cover the fundamentals of NZC, including UK and EU policy and regulation, governance and accountability for net zero, and how to build a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory. It will follow the established principles and definitions set out by the GHG protocol for scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions. Partners will be instructed on how to identify and record emissions factors and activity data and how to develop a net zero decarbonisation plan with defined targets and reporting methods. It will explain how partners can apply to be accredited under the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and what to expect when they apply. Options for decarbonisation – in the supply chain, purchasing, transport, waste, and buildings – and best practice and recommendations for carbon offsetting will be explored. At the end of the course, partners will receive an official IEMA Certificate. https://uk.tdsynnex.com Following a strategic review, the services business unit will now concentrate on providing additional trade-in and IT asset disposition (ITAD) options that will enable partners to encourage customer investment in IT products and services while also meeting their sustainability obligations. This is in addition to the wide range of financial services the distie provides, including Tech as a Service (TaaS), which enables partners to offer any combination of products and services on a subscription basis. Partners will also be able to make use of the wide range of options available through TD CAPITAL; the unique Flexscription offering, which provides clearly visible end-of-contract options from the outset; and the Easy Upgrade consumer subscription service. The new approach will also see TD SYNNEX offering a set of value-added services, enabling partners to offer tailored configuration, ‘bill and hold’ services, extended warranty options, and net zero consultancy services to their customers. Sustainable choices The central focus of the new strategy will be on driving the circular economy, said Sophia Haywood-Atkinson, Business Unit Director, Services, UK at TD SYNNEX. “The circular economy is becoming a core part of the whole IT ecosystem. Being able to drive and deliver sustainable choices and derive better value out of the entire lifecycle of IT products is going to become absolutely vital to all partner businesses in the future. Device-as-a-service is increasingly popular, and we are seeing more tenders stipulating that a certain proportion of products must be refurbished. “This is already a big area of potential for our partners and, as it continues to accelerate and grow, Sophia Haywood-Atkinson
