Print IT Reseller - issue 111

50 AND FINALLY Peter Lunn, Senior Category Manager and Managed Print Services Lead, UK, TD SYNNEX 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? Interest in managed print services is growing fast and we’re seeing more enquiries about our OpenMPS offering. Underlying that there continues to be pressure on customer budgets and in-house resource – that’s one of the drivers for managed print. We’re always working to help our partners adapt to changing dynamics of the market and there are many ways in which we do that. Not only with OpenMPS, but in areas like sustainability and on core business functions, such as credit. Where do you see the next big opportunity? In addition to managed print, the drive towards sustainability and net zero is changing attitudes and purchasing behaviour. Printers that need less frequent cartridge replacement and are more energy-efficient are in demand. This is a huge area of opportunity already and I can only see it growing. We need to focus on carbon reduction and not just planting trees to offset. What would make your day job easier? Everyone’s life would be easier if we had more economic certainty, but the reality is that we work in a constantly changing world and market. We must continually adapt while also providing the stability and support that partners need and value. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? Products are important – without them there would be no market. But in the end, people still buy from people. What was your first job? I started off writing bespoke small business accounting software and did technical support on Apple IIs and original IBM PCs. (That’s really going to age me!) What would be your dream job? Looking forward, I think being involved in the current environmental push on print could be extremely fulfilling. I’m really a product person and believe we need to take the impact our products have seriously regardless of party politics, we need to rise above and take responsibility as individuals and organisations. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? Absolutely a curry. A nice hot and fruity Dhansak is my go-to. How do you like to spend your spare time? We’ve just got a new puppy and at ten weeks old she demands a lot of attention. Music concerts, and I also have my own YouTube channel when I stream myself gaming some evenings. Favourite holiday destination. I’m a big country music fan, I’m trying to plan a Nashville trip in the next few years. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? I’m a big F1 fan and McLaren’s my team. It would be a McLaren GT, driving down to Lake Como, via the autobahn, naturally. Peter Lunn If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? We all have sliding doors moments in our careers, but quite honestly, no. Describe your most embarrassing moment. Watching myself with my family on TV when I co-hosted The Computer Show on the BBC when working at Apple in the mid-90s. It’s really cringeworthy now. One day I might transfer that old VHS to digital. https://uk.tdsynnex.com
