We are obviously very fortunate in the UK that many people throughout Europe understand and speak English but I always ensure that I send a translated version of my email to resellers in Europe out of courtesy and respect. As a result responses are typically in their native language, so that’s when Google Translate really helps me! It’s a great way to pick up common phrases in certain languages as well. As they say, every day’s a school day! e My walking boots I am very fortunate in that I live in the New Forest and as a result I have an abundance of fantastic walks on my doorstep. I don’t have a set regime due to work schedules, but I try to go for a walk most days if I can. The importance of taking a break from your screen, getting some exercise and fresh air have been well documented, especially during the pandemic. So my trusty Merrells and my creaking knees get a workout most days. As a member of the Woodland Trust for over 20 years I’m a long-term advocate of the benefits of Shinrin Yoku which I’m pleased to see is growing in awareness within the UK. q LinkedIn I recently checked and I actually created my LinkedIn account in 2007, which makes me feel very old indeed! I saw from the outset what a great tool this platform would offer individuals and organisations alike to promote their goods, services and when needed, themselves. It’s a vital tool for me to keep up to date with what my partners and prospects are talking about or promoting. As ‘Industry Analysts’ part of my role at Keypoint Intelligence is sharing not just our content but any relevant news from the industry, so LinkedIn is a key tool for my role. Writing this I’ve just remembered being responsible for compiling a technical newsletter whilst at Toshiba called ‘Handshake’ which was sent out to all the Toshiba Fax Dealers ‘back in the day’ (I wonder if any copies are still in existence?) So I guess I’ve always enjoyed sharing information which I thought would be useful to people. LinkedIn therefore is a perfect tool for me. r Jabra speaker Like most people reading this I spend a high percentage of a typical working day on MS Teams meetings. A gamechanger for me was acquiring a Jabra speaker which allowed me to ‘ditch the headphones’ which makes all these calls more comfortable and doesn’t muck up the hair do! t The Keypoint Intelligence team It goes without saying that working for the ‘Industry Analysts’ I am surrounded by a team of extremely knowledgeable and talented colleagues who know their area of expertise inside out. Behind every industry forecast/report/ blog post there’s a team of extremely talented researchers, writers, editors and analysts who are not only great at what they do but a joy to work with.
