THE HOME OFFICE

Dual-purpose lighting
Philips has expanded its app-controlled
lighting range with a number of new
products suitable for all areas of the
home, including a new desk light ideal
for the home office.
Philips Hue Beyond features two
separate light sources – an uplight and
a downlight – that work together at the
same time so that a single lamp can
provide both high quality tunable white
light needed for everyday functional tasks
and colourful mood lighting. Both light
sources can be controlled separately using
the Hue smartphone/tablet app.
Available as a table light, ceiling light
and pendant light, Philips Hue Beyond
works seamlessly with all Philips Hue and
Friends of Hue products and is easy to add
to an existing Hue network. Like Philips
Hue, the connectivity features of the
new lamps can discreetly alert you to a
new email or change in the weather via a
gentle ‘light notification’.
Wall Storage
Wall storage is a great way of making use of scarce space in home offices. One of
the most attractive and flexible is Urbio, a recyclable wall storage system made
from lightweight, durable polypropylene.
Perfect for stationery, personal objects and plants, Urbio consists of metal wall plates
and magnetic containers available in a variety of shapes and sizes, each costing between
£15 and £75.
Urbio is available from John Lewis.
Home-sized packaging
Home workers need the same tools
as office-based colleagues, just in
smaller packages.
In recognition of this, Portucel
Soporcel has just launched the Navigator
Home Pack containing 250 sheets of
the world’s best selling premium office
paper instead of the usual 500. As well
as taking up less space, Home Packs are
lighter and easier to carry.
Portucel Soporcel says it has
introduced the Navigator Home Pack to
encourage home users, who traditionally
value convenience and value-for-money
above all else, to start using a premium
paper product in the home.

Express yourself
One of the advantages of working
at home is the ability to design an
office and workstation just the way
you like it. At a time when more and
more offices are implementing hot
desking, with clear desk policies and
a ban on personal knick-knacks, being
able to surround yourself with desk
accessories, photographs and other
totems is a major attraction.
Above all, working at home gives
you the opportunity to replace grey
corporate shades with a refreshing blast
of colour. From the big and bold shades
of Esselte Leitz’s WOW range (pictured)
to the more muted tones of Avery’s
Martha Stewart Collection (available
exclusively from Staples), home workers
have much more freedom to express
themselves.
