Slim and stylish
Acer has expanded its portfolio of convertible
and detachableWindows 10 devices with a
number of new models: Swift 5, an ultra-slim
and ultra-light notebook with an interactive
multi-touch Full HD IPS2 touchscreen; Spin 5, a
convertible, available in 13
and 15-inch versions; and
Switch 7, a fanless 2-in-1
notebook. All incorporate
8th Generation Intel
Core processors.

Content creation
LG unveiled a new V series smartphone optimised for content creation. In addition to voice
and face recognition technologies, it features a 6-inch 18:9 OLED FullVision display; F1.6
aperture and glass Crystal Clear Lens; and Cine Video mode for
producing movie-quality videos.
No more mess
Epson showcased its next generation of
economical EcoTank printers, featuring a
reconfigured design and three years’
worth of ink. The ink tank is now
on the front for easier access and
the bottles have been improved for
mess-free refilling. In addition to models
for home offices and small businesses,
Epson has introduced two five-colour
models for high quality photo printing.
Keyboard for creatives
Logitech has introduced a smart keyboard for
creatives. Called CRAFT, it incorporates a touch-
sensitive input dial that recognises the app being
used and provides context-specific functions
at a tap. For example, it can be used to adjust
image brightness, contrast and saturation in
Adobe Photoshop, or to create and adjust charts
in Microsoft Excel. A smart illumination feature
detects the user’s hands and automatically
adjusts keyboard backlighting to suit ambient
light levels.
Convertible upgrade
Lenovo showcased the follow-up to its Yoga
910 convertible. The Yoga 920 features new
smart pen functionality; voice recognition;
biometric security withWindows Hello; up to 8th
Generation Intel Core i7 processors; and a 4K IPS
touchscreen in a 13.9-inch frame. It also launched
its most compact Yoga 720 model to date. The
12-inch Yoga 720 is just 0.62 inches thick and
weighs 2.53 pounds.
High-performance LED
LG Electronics launched two new LED projectors:
the ProBeam UST (Ultra Short-Throw) laser
projector (HF85JA) and the LG MiniBeam
(PH30JG). The ProBeam UST, which requires just
4.7-inches of space to display a Full HD image
up to 100 inches in size, offers up to 1,500
ANSI lumen of brightness, a contrast ratio of
150,000:1 and a host of connectivity options
including Bluetooth for use with Bluetooth-
enabled wireless speakers or headphones. The
more compact MiniBeam has a built-in 9000mAh
battery for wireless presentations, USB Type-C
compatibility for connecting other devices and
Multi-Angle Projection, which allows it to be
tilted up to 70 degrees to display an image high
on a wall or on the ceiling.
Flippable laptop
ASUS describes the ZenBook Flip 14 as the
world’s thinnest 2-in-1 laptop. Just 13.9mm
thick and weighing 1.4kg, it features a
360-degree flip-able touchscreen; 14-inch
NanoEdge Full HD display with thin bezel;
ASUS Pen support; 8th Generation Intel Core
i7 quad-core processor; 16GB RAM; NVIDIA
GeoForce MX150 graphics; a 512GB PCIe x4
SSD; and a Harman Kardon audio system.
World’s biggest microSD
card
Data storage companyWestern Digital launched
the world’s highest capacity microSD card for
use in mobile devices. The 400GB SanDisk Ultra
microSDXC UHS-I card can hold up to 40 hours
of Full HD video and features superfast transfer
speeds of up to
100MB/s. At this
transfer speed,
consumers can
expect to move up
to 1,200 photos per
minute.
IFA 2017
Technology trade show IFA 2017 took place in Berlin from
September 1-6, attracting more than 253,000 visitors and 1,805
exhibitors.While the focus of the event is consumer electronics and
home appliances, a number of products launched at the show also
have applications in the office.
