Headsets
Sennheiser UK Telecoms Director
of Sales, Jane Craven, describes
Sennheiser as ‘the industry’s best kept
secret’. If that’s the case, someone’s
been talking, because in the last 12
months the headset supplier has
doubled its UK turnover year-on-year
– and plans to do so again this year
– moved to new 15,000 square foot
premises and won some high profile
contracts (see opposite).
Much of the company’s success is
down to its expanded product range,
which now addresses 80% of the total
contact centre and office headset
market, and significant investment in
sales and marketing. This includes a
dedicated telecoms team responsible
for the distribution channel; a corporate
accounts team that provides end users
with trial headsets and demos; and a
unified communications specialist.
Craven says that the expansion of
its sales team has enabled Sennheiser
to capitalise on three trends: continued
demand for headsets in the contact
centre; the move from wired to wireless
headsets; and greater adoption of unified
communications.
Although there is minimal growth in
the traditional contact centre market,
Craven says that Sennheiser’s higher
profile and expanded product range
mean it is now being considered for
replacement headsets. It is also benefiting
as more contact centres make the switch
to wireless models.
“Everything Everywhere now has three
completely wireless contact centres in the
UK and we have just completed a roll-out
with the Leicestershire Police, who have
implemented the UK’s first fully wireless
contact centre for 999 calls,” she explains.
The choice of Sennheiser headsets by
the Leicestershire Police is testament to
their quality, as call clarity and reliability
are critical in such an environment. To
ensure headsets are always ready for use,
operators have spare battery chargers

Office headsets
In office environments, wireless headsets
like the Sennheiser DW Office series
are already the preferred option as
office workers tend to have more
varied tasks than call centre agents
and a greater requirement for mobility.
Wireless headsets cost more – circa
£200 (suggested selling price) compared
to £40 for a wired equivalent – but the
productivity benefits they deliver mean
the extra investment is quickly recouped.
