Paper science
What’s more hygienic, a paper
towel or a hand dryer? And
what’s more sustainable?
Making the case for paper
towels, the European Tissue
Symposium (ETS) has launched
a new website full of facts,
information and research
on the benefits of deploying
single-use towels in company
washrooms.

Blake has expanded its Premium Office envelope range with a new series developed for customers who
regularly send mail to Europe. ‘Windows of the World’ envelopes reflect the design preferences of 18
European countries, especially in relation to window positioning. Marketing manager Alison Wilde said:
“We’ve developed this range in response to our own research and feedback from customers in the UK
and across Europe. Did you know, for example, that Sweden prefers a right hand window compared to
Germany, Poland and Austria who favour the left?” Windows of the World envelopes are available in a
range of sizes with the option of matching paper.
Green Ambassador
Toshiba TEC has been named
an International Green World
Ambassador at the Green Apple
Environment Awards for its the
paper-saving e-STUDIO306LP/
RD30 Eco MFP. In making
the award, the judges said:
“Toshiba’s new eco-friendly
printing system has the
potential to reduce paper use
for printed documents by up to
80%. The system is another of
those simple genius concepts
that seem obvious once
invented. These devices include
an erasing system that clears
paper of toner, giving at least
five chances to re-use the same
sheet of paper.”
Buy on sight
Impulse buying is easier than ever with a new
‘advertising recognition trigger’ from Powa
Technologies. The interactive technology turns
printed advertisements and posters into shop
windows by enabling consumers to buy what
they see on sight. With PowaTag Instant Buy-
enabled advertisements, there is no need for the
customer to scan a QR code or go to a website
to buy a product. If they like what they see, they
just need to take a photo of the poster/ad with
their smartphone. The PowaTag app will find
the product in question, and with just two taps
the user can buy it using pre-entered payment
and delivery information. As well as converting
consumer interest into sales, the technology
enables vendors to see exactly which advert
prompted a sale and so measure advertising
effectiveness.
