A Fine addition
ABBYY has launched
a new version of
its FineReader
OCR and document
processing software.
An all-in-one solution
for working with
PDFs and scans,
FineReader 14
has built-in editing
and collaboration tools for managing
pages, content editing, reviewing,
commenting, searching, filling forms,
signing and protecting files. A new
‘compare documents’ feature detects
and highlights textual changes between
two versions of the same document,
irrespective of their format (PDF, Word,
JPG, etc.). FineReader 14 works with
more than 190 languages and is
available in three editions: Standard,
Corporate and Enterprise.
New from HID Global, the EasyLobby Solo visitor
management system gives SMEs a simple,
professional solution for checking visitors in and out,
including reporting for compliance and audit purposes
and the emailing of visitor details to first responders
in an emergency. The standalone solution works on a
single workstation, with the option of self-registration
via a tablet, and is compatible with all HID Global
printers and a range of ID scanners.
Speeding up
The Develop ineo 958 from DSales (UK) Ltd is an entry-level light production device for in-house
print rooms and pay-for-print providers. More than 25% faster than its predecessor, the compact
mono MFP prints at up to 95 pages per minute and has a scan speed of 240 images per minute.
Features include a paper capacity of 6,650 sheets; a 150-sheet bypass tray; 1200 by 297mm
banner printing; support for media up to SRA3 and 300 gsm (256 gsm via paper trays and auto
duplex); and a choice of inline finishing options.
Small office scanning
The duplex SmartOffice PS3060U small office scanner
from Plustek has a recommended daily processing
volume of 4,000 pages and scan speeds of
20 pages per minute (colour) or 30 ppm
(mono) at 200 dpi. A 50-page automatic
document feeder can handle a mixture
of A4 paper, plastic, rigid cards,
cheques and rice paper.

paper mode for

inches in length.
Chromebook
control
ThinPrint Cloud Services, the
cloud-based printing and print
management specialist, has
introduced a free extension for
Chrome OS that overcomes
the traditional limitations of
printing from Chromebooks.
In particular, it allows IT
administrators to bring these
popular devices into the
corporate print environment
for improved visibility,
management and control.

Visitor management for SMEs
Secure file transfers
Toshiba TEC is partnering with AMS to make it easy for customers
to encrypt and transfer very large file sizes. The AMS Managed
File Transfer (MFT) platform lets companies circumvent email
limits and avoid the problems associated with vulnerable servers,
disparate legacy file transfer systems, slow physical shipment of
data, fragmented email attachments and expensive leased lines.
Also available from Toshiba is AMS CloudFax, which lets employees
send and receive faxes as electronic messages directly from their
existing email accounts, thereby removing the need for physical
fax machines and reducing fax-related costs by up to 70%. Both
solutions can be integrated with Toshiba MFPs.

PDF software
Nuance has released version 6 of PDF Converter for Mac, an intelligent solution
that enables Apple users to convert, edit and securely collaborate with PDF files.
New features in version 6 include the ability to view and correct OCR results; create
customised stamps; and create interactive PDF forms with signature fields. The
new version has an improved user interface, enhanced annotation tools and faster
application performance.
