Fellowes has extended FSC 100% recycled
board accreditation to Bankers Box by Fellowes
corrugated storage and filing products – previously
available in Europe under the R-Kive brand. Steve
Hickey, European Marketing Manager for Bankers
Box, said: “Fellowes has been manufacturing
corrugated products for nearly 100 years under
the global Bankers Box brand. Gaining FSC
accreditation involves a rigorous auditing and
assessment to ensure full compliance with strict
regulations, so we are very pleased to be first to
market in Europe with a full FSC range offering.”
To mark the re-branding of its R-Kive products,
Fellowes commissioned renowned British artist
Chris Gilmour to recreate European cityscapes
using only Bankers Boxes and glue. His 40-foot
wide replica of London took two days to build.

Recycled copiers
Canon is launching remanufactured versions of
best-selling colour and mono imageRUNNER
MFDs. The A3 devices are remade in Giessen,
Germany using up to 93% of existing
components (by weight), resulting in a purchase
price up to 60% lower than a virgin machine of
similar functionality. Canon says that in other
respects the recycled copiers are comparable to
brand new machines, with proven performance
and build quality, support for managed print
services (MPS) and equivalent warranties. Canon
started remanufacturing in 2010 and since then
has sold 5,500 recycled MFPs in Europe. The four
remanufactured models are the black-and-white
iR3025Ne, iR3045Ne, iR5065Ne and the colour
IRC3580Ne (illustrated).

Accord Office Supplies has launched a new version
of its Green Guide to help customers become
more environmentally friendly when ordering
office supplies. The 10th Edition of the Green
Guide explains how customers can introduce
environmentally friendly initiatives in their offices
and highlights the green products they can order
from Accord to help them achieve this. One of
Accord’s own green initiatives is to make deliveries
using Recylabox, a reusable, recycled container
that can be used again and again.

Chopping bills
An innovative and easy way to cut energy bills
is being brought to market by Rexel. Targeted
at home users but just as useful for small
businesses, Chop-Cloc is a low-cost heating
control that can be retrofitted to almost any
domestic central heating system. It makes
savings by inserting a short period of ‘off-time’
(typically 15-20 minutes) in every hour that the
heating system is on. Turning the heating off for
short periods at regular intervals has little effect
on room temperature, but can cut bills by as
much as 16%.

Measured and alert
MeasureMyEnergy is another useful energy-
saving solution from
Rexel. The energy
monitoring tool lets you
measure energy use in
a home, office or retail
environment. Information
is displayed in graphs
showing daily, weekly
and monthly historical
data. Email and SMS
alert the end user when
appliances have been left on, have been running at
unplanned times of the day or have switched off
unexpectedly.

Energy training
The first module of a new e-learning course on
energy management, currently being developed
by the Energy Institute (EI), is now available free
of charge. The full course will be released in July.
The course is interactive and provides a series of
practical questions and scenarios for learners to
engage with. The free module covers the role of
an energy manager, developing an energy policy
and investment in energy efficiency including
calculating payback periods.

e-learning
in its sector to send absolutely nothing
to landfill or incineration.
“I was inspired five years ago by
Denso, who were one of the first
companies in the world to achieve zero-
waste,” explains Simone. “I thought ‘if
they can do it, we can too.’ It has been
really challenging – so to finally hit
our target is incredibly rewarding. I am
really proud of the tenacity of our Green
Angels Team 5 who made this a reality.”
Commercial celebrated the
achievement by holding a ZeroWaste
Day on May 5, when the company’s 180
employees, Cheltenham’s Mayor Colin
Hay and key suppliers waved goodbye to
the last skip. It has also re-decorated its
offices with coloured graphics illustrating
its ‘journey to zero-waste’, installed
stylish new recycling bins and a recycling
chute and removed the last desk bins.
Geoff Quayle, Sales Director of
Commercial supplier Printwaste, said:
“It has been fantastic to see how far
Commercial Group has come since I
met the company nine years ago. When
Commercial began recycling small
volumes of paper and cardboard, very
few companies were doing it at the time.
And now Commercial is waving goodbye
to their landfill skip altogether.
“Thanks to companies like
Commercial leading by example,
zero-waste is now being more widely
recognised in business. This is important
when you consider that the majority
of landfill waste actually comes from
businesses. Gloucestershire has just an
estimated six years of landfill space left.
We have, however, seen a 36% increase
in recycling in the last three years. Out
of the 48,000 tonnes we receive, we are
able to recycle 99.6% of it and the tiny
amount we cannot recycle, we reuse and
turn into a new product.”
