Pick up your pen and paper
Stationery giant Pukka Pads is reminding people of
the joy of receiving a handwritten letter.
National Handwriting Day which took place on
January 23 highlights the importance of handwriting
and the extra personal layer it adds to your message,
which online communications lack. To mark the day,
Poole-based Pukka Pads encouraged people to write
a letter rather than using electronic communication
tools such as email or Skype.
Managing Director Chris Stott said, “Technologies
such as email and Facebook have become the most
convenient form of communication, with handwriting
and the appreciation of language, suffering as a result.”

Pentel charity fundraising
During 2011 writing instruments manufacturer
Pentel raised over £46,500 for The Prostate Cancer
Charity through sales of two of its pens. Pentel has
pledged to continue to fundraise for the charity
in 2012.
The Pentel products are a blue barrelled ballpoint
pen called LineStyle, which carries a donation of
£0.20 per pen for every pen sold and an ultra-cool
version of its EnerGel Xm Retractable liquid gel
roller, with an ice-white barrel and contrasting aqua
blue trim, for which a donation of £0.25 per pen
sold is made to the charity.
Founded in 1996, The Prostate Cancer
Charity fights prostate cancer on every front
– from research into the disease, to support
for those affected and their families, to
campaigning for greater awareness and
providing information on symptoms,
treatment and advice.
