Learning to write
with BIC
Leading ballpoint brand BIC has
launched a new range of writing
instruments designed specially to help
children learn to write.
Developed with input
from ergonomists
and psychomotor
therapists,
BIC Beginners
retractable ballpoint
pens and refillable
mechanical pencils
have a guiding
line on the centre
of the pen to
encourage correct
finger placement
and a ‘nose cone’
that
prevents fingers from slipping too close
to the tip of the pen. This also improves
visibility when writing.
Each pen/pencil is approximately 12cm
in length and suitable for both left- and
right-handed users. They come in pink or
blue barrels, singly or in boxes of 12.
Although designed (and styled) for 4- to
8-year olds, BIC Beginners pens are also
appealing to grown-ups, with an attractive
size and comfortable grip.

Expanding folders and files
The Nappa iPad case (right) is one of several
new iPad cases being launched by Filofax this
autumn as the company continues to expand its
fast growing Paper+tablet category. Cases are
also being added to the Finsbury and Holborn
ranges, while the Pennybridge and Metropol
collections are being extended with folders
specially designed for Galaxy tablets.
In addition, Filofax is introducing the new
Microfiber line of iPad cases, folios and fashionable
totes. Boasting a combination of leather-look and
microfibre fabric, they include useful features such
as removable ring mechanisms, tablet pockets and
calculators. Prices start at £38.
Also new is Lockwood, a zipped organiser with
a lightly oiled, full grain buffalo leather cover and
internal lining; and the hand-finished Exotic made
from Italian crocodile print calf leather, with luxury
cream stationery.
Make it
happen
The Post-it
Super Sticky range
is back on TV this
year in a series of
adverts on live and
on-demand TV. The campaign highlights
the exceptional stickiness of Post-it Super
Sticky notes and the enduring power of
written notes in today’s digital age.
Perfect for desktop monitors and fridges,
Post-it Super Sticky notes are designed to
stick vertically and are strong enough to
adhere to almost any surface for longer than
an average note.

Delivery targets
In the first quarter of the financial year
2014-15, Royal Mail beat its delivery
targets for both first and second class
post: 93.3% of first class mail landed
the next working day (target 93%)
and 99% of Second Class mail was
delivered within three working days
(target 98.5%).
Thankless task
One in five people work for a boss who
never says ‘thank you’, according to a
survey by One4all Rewards, and 75%
feel dissatisfied with the level of thanks
they do receive. Commenting on the
findings, Declan Byrne, UK managing
director of One4all Rewards, said:
“It’s easy for bosses to forget to say
‘thank you’ as often as their employees
would like, but failure to correct this
will severely impact performance and
profitability. There is evidence that a
simple ‘thank you’, delivered in the
right way, can boost performance by
as much as 44%, save considerable
money through better staff retention
and avoid the need to pay inflated
salaries in order to attract people with
the best skills.”
FIRA Open Day
The Furniture Industry Research
Association (FIRA) is holding an Open
Day at its Hertfordshire headquarters
on October 16. Visitors can take a
tour of the testing laboratories and
observe flammability, ergonomics and
furniture repair demonstrations. There
will also be expert presentations on
topics such as sustainability in the
furniture industry, compliance with
the EU Timber Regulation and carbon
footprinting. To book a place,

Germ-fighting, water-
resistant keyboards
UK sales of Seal Shield waterproof and washable
keyboards and infection-proof tablet/mobile
covers could receive a boost following the
appointment of Tech Data UK as a distributor.
A world leader in infection control technology,
Seal Shield specialises in washable electronics and
medical-grade infection prevention technology that
can be used in hospitals, the home and workplace.
Seal Shield president and CEO Bradley
Whitchurch said: “In addition to our waterproof
keyboards, we manufacture hygienic mice, remotes
and mobility products. All are fully submersible
for deep cleaning and are protected with Silver
Seal, an antimicrobial, fungistatic additive which
reduces the growth of mould, mildew and odour-
causing bacteria on product surfaces.”
Tech Data is confident of growing sales of Seal
Shield products in traditional and new markets
including health, education, office and retail
(consumer).
