Meeting customer needs
For a clear illustration of Versapak’s solutions-based
approach, you need look no further than a job it recently
completed for mobile network operator EE, which was
looking for a secure, traceable way to transport customers’
phones and tablets to repair shops.
To start with EE favoured Versapak’s standard Secure Courier
Satchel. However, the Versapak design team came up with an
alternative, bespoke design that was water-resistant and specially
padded and stiffened to protect delicate electronic devices.
The new product also contained Versapak’s ‘bond’ tamper
evident locking system which, when used with the uniquely
coded locking seals, creates a visible and simple chain of custody
control that removes the incidence of loss, interference and theft.
Versapak took just 10 days to design and prepare a sample
for EE. Once this was approved, it produced and delivered 20,000
bags within just four weeks.
Since then, EE has ordered
another 5,000 bags.

Bespoke designs
One aspect of this trend is growing demand for bespoke designs –
everything from a company logo on a bag to entirely new bag designs.
“Bespoke is growing. At the moment requests make up 40% of
our business.We are having requests for a variety of things including
dog weekend bags for carrying a dog, dog food, water and blankets on
overnight stays in hotels. I expect bespoke to make up the majority of
our business in two to three years’ time,” says Edwards.
As Versapak celebrates its 40th anniversary – and the sale of its 10
millionth product – its traditional bags and pouches look much as they
have always done. However, the manufacturing processes used and the
intelligence that can be built-in mean that they are now suitable for
