Illuminating experience
Earlier in the year, German pen
manufacturer Schneider released its
latest highlighter, with an important
twist that brings this faithful friend
to a whole new generation.
Named ‘Job’, it is robust enough
to withstand the most demanding
workload and is a brilliant highlighter
in more ways than one. With large ink
capacity which can reliably highlight
over 15,000 words, it has fade resistant
ink and a polypropylene barrel that is
capable of protecting the ink for two
years. Job’s cap comes complete with a
clip and the chisel tip pen provides two
line widths. Available in amazingly bright
yellow, orange, pink, green, red and blue,
Job is a pleasure to use but what makes
this pen remarkable is that it is fully
recyclable. However, should you wish
to keep using it for eternity, Job can
simply be dipped into a Schneider Maxx
660 refill station and will automatically
recharge to precisely the correct level
without the risk of overflowing.
“The Job highlighter is the perfect
pen for any company that truly
wants to stand by its Eco credentials
because it has to be one of the
most environmentally-friendly pens
available,” says Daniel Taylor of Banner
Business Services, which has been selling
Schneider pens for four years. “I think
we have all come to expect a certain
standard when it comes to German
manufacturing and ingenuity and
Schneider pens definitely live up to that
reputation. I use them.”
Schneider is a multi-award-winning
manufacturer of writing instruments
and is the only EMAS-certified pen
manufacturer in the world, meeting
the most stringent environmental
standards set for such a company.
Throughout its 75-year history, the
family-run business has aimed to
produce pens that are durable rather
than disposable and Schneider has
achieved this by manufacturing refillable
pens that have longevity. According to
Schneider’s managing director Frank
Gross, being eco-friendly doesn’t mean
compromising on quality or doubling
the cost. “Increasing the lifecycle of our
products is efficient and benefits the
environment.We’ve always felt that
it is important to invest in the future
and we’ve looked from every angle to
produce pens that are as green as can
be. That’s why our pens are created in
our factory which is powered by solar
and hydroelectric power. They are
recyclable and refillable, meaning less
waste.”
If you’re looking for a handwriting
pen that writes like a dream and
floats across the page then any one of
Schneider’s Slider range is ideal. Slider
pens use Viscoglide ink technology
which is smoother than gel and writes
up to four times longer. Described as
writing with liquid silk, the exceptional
glide quality of this ink makes effortless
work of even the longest piece of
writing.
Despite the fall in paper sales,
Schneider’s sales have continued to
grow because once tried, the chances
are that you’ll want another. Those who
continue to write by hand appreciate
quality and come back for more says
Danny Ayriss of OPN, Schneider’s
distributor in the UK. “These really
are exceptional pens and with so
many features there’s a pen for every
situation. You instantly feel that you’re
using an extraordinary pen.”
Viscoglide’s black ink is waterproof
and all colours are fast drying so don’t
smudge. The Slider Rave is a retractable
It’s hard to imagine a page in the office or at school
which isn’t adorned with the now ubiquitous
fluorescence of a highlighter and despite feeling
like a relatively new addition to the office product
catalogue, this ingenious writing tool is now nearly
half a century old.
