Bisley is addressing the way storage is
used and specified in today’s offices with
a highly flexible new series designed to
appeal to architects and designers.
Be by Bisley has three main purposes: to
provide the storage space needed in today’s
flexible, mobile working environments; to
divide space; and to support desking.
Bisley expects specifiers to use
Be with their own choice of
desking, but if required
Bisley could supply the
storage with benches in a
complete solution.
The building block of
the system is a ‘portal’ that
can be linked laterally and customised in a
multitude of ways.
Be provides versatile storage for business
documents and personal items, with a wide
choice of shelving,
lockers and closure
options, including the ability to
extend doors across multiple units. It can be
specified with access from one or both sides
and can be fully cable managed to provide
power to the unit itself (e.g. for built-in
lighting) or to attached workstations.
Be can be used to support workstations
from any manufacturer, including a
customer’s existing desking, and
can be integrated with soft seating
in break-out areas. A specially
designed, cable-managed hood,
known as aWrap, provides a quiet
booth for semi-private use.
It also provides a good way to
break up space, both physically and
through design (e.g. colour-coding).
The ability to add a lightbox and printed
film to the back of units offers further
opportunities to customise a space through
striking graphics and branding.
Reduce, reuse, reproduce
Welsh artist NathanWyburn has found an intriguing
use for old Bic Cristal ballpoints in this eye-catching
homage to Les Miserables.
Made from 6,717 Bic Cristal pen parts including
2,436 empty barrels, the artwork was commissioned by
Bic to promote the 2012 BIC Cristal Challenge, in which
it is offering £10 to any customer who manages to use
up all the ink in a Bic Cristal pen.
In the last challenge, 1,400 barrels were successfully
emptied by customers, many of which have been re-
used inWyburn’s mosaic.
Research commissioned by the University of
Reading in 2010 found that on average, a Bic Cristal
pen with a write-out length of 2km can write 1,615
addresses, 1,475 Christmas cards and 986 Sudoku
puzzles. According to Bic, Victor Hugo would have
needed just 9.2 Bic Cristal pens to write the novel on
which the popular musical is based.
The Bic Cristal Challenge is open to anyone who
buys a BIC® Cristal 10-pack or 50-pack before
December 31, 2012. For terms and conditions, please

Hit the Deck
The Deck at The National Theatre on London’s South Bank has received
permission from Lambeth Council to continue operating for another five years
until March 2017. Conceived in 2006, the National Theatre’s 200sqm events
venue is constructed from tubular steel and clad with diaphanous polycarbonate
panels lit by LEDs giving it a dramatic polychromatic glow. Available for private
meetings, product launches, conferences, weddings and exclusive evening
events, the licensed venue has stunning views of the Thames and city skyline.
The Deck can cater for up to 120 guests at a standing reception or up to 80 at a
sit-down lunch or dinner.
