Kodak enables remote
management of desktop
scanners
Kodak customers can remotely
monitor, manage and update desktop
scanners throughout their organisation
via a central server and web-based
administration interface. Kodak Asset
Management software, available as a
server and client module, enables IT
managers and system administrators to
monitor scanner performance and status,
deploy driver and profile updates, and
gain valuable insight into device usage.
Tony Barbeau, Kodak General Manager for
Document Imaging, said: “Kodak continues
to meet the needs of a growing distributed
capture market. Our work with customers
shows that businesses with many scanners
in multiple locations face challenges related
to tracking, managing and supporting their
scanners. Management Software is designed
as an affordable yet comprehensive way to
support these needs.”
The server module combines a simple,
graphical user interface and dashboard with
a powerful database containing information
on software and driver versions, consumables
usage, supply levels and scanner updates. The
Client Module loads onto a user’s PC, sends
updates to the central server database and
receives upgrades and updates.
Asset Management Software will initially
support KODAK SCANMATE i900 Series
Scanners, KODAK i1200 and i1300 Series
Scanners and KODAK i2000 Series Scanners.

Digital pen captures and
converts handwritten notes
IRIS has updated its handwriting capture
solution with the launch of IRISNotes 2.
Consisting of a digital/ink pen, a receiver
that clips to the top of a sheet of paper and
handwriting recognition software, IRISNotes
transforms handwritten notes and drawings
into editable documents for use in any word
processor. It can also be used
to capture a digital image of
a page for archiving purposes.
All you have to do is place
the receiver on the paper page,
start writing with the digital
pen and connect the receiver
to a PC or Mac to download
the text and transform it into a
Word document or email with
just one click. Handwriting
recognition accuracy can be
improved by using the software
training module.
IRIS Notes2 isn’t just useful for people
who write a lot, it can also be used in specific
business applications, such as warehouse inventory;
and once connected to a PC or MAC, the pen can
also be used as a mouse or graphics tablet.
One version, IRISNotes Executive 2, also links
directly to an iPhone and iPad, allowing users to
download text to their mobile device and write and
draw on photos stored on their Apple device.
Prices are £99 for IRISNotes Express 2 and £149
for the iOS compatible IRISNotes Executive 2.

Waste not want not
Instead of sending unwanted but usable
equipment for recycling or to landfill, wouldn’t
it be better to give it a second life in a charity?
This is the purpose of Globechain, an online
matching site that brings together businesses
that have items to dispose of and charities and
not-for-profit organisations that could make use
of them. More than 100 companies have already
registered on the site, which is now encouraging
more charities to join the network.

Sign and store
Perceptive Software has added an electronic
signature solution powered by AssureSign to its
portfolio of process and content management
products.
Designed both for ad hoc signing and
integration into a business process, Perceptive
eAuthorize allows documents to be sent and signed
electronically removing the need to distribute them
in hard copy. Once the required signature has been
added, the signed document can be automatically
uploaded to Perceptive Software’s enterprise
content management solution.
RESTful Web services integration enables a
signing event to be initiated through a business
process, a Perceptive Software eForm, or via a
customer’s business application. Once initiated,
signatures and any other required information are
collected and the documents captured directly into
the Perceptive Content solution, along with a full
audit history.
Perceptive Software says that while other
solutions are SaaS-based, eAuthorize can be
delivered on-premise as well, satisfying the needs
of organisations that want to keep data within their
walls.

Voice recognition aids
password resets
Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Polska Telefonia
Cyfrowa is using voice biometrics to simplify
the resetting of network and desktop access
passwords.
Instead of having to remember passwords
and PINs, Nuance VocalPassword allows the
company’s 4,500 employees to change settings by
speech alone, improving worker productivity and
eliminating costly manual IT support processes.
The system uses voice biometrics to confirm
a user’s identity and speech recognition to
implement the password reset.
Robert Weideman, executive vice president
and general manager, enterprise of Nuance
Communications, said: “Given that human voices
are as individually unique as fingerprints and
retinas, they are an ideal way for companies to
authenticate employees and customers. Polska
Telefonia Cyfrowa S.A. is a prime example of
how voice biometrics can help employees access
information or services remotely at any time, by
simply using the sound of their voice.”
