Working together to
make a difference
How Toshiba and its solutions partners are helping schools,
universities and colleges manage print more effectively
and discussions around climate
change.
Toshiba MFPs themselves
also contribute to reduced CO
2
emissions. By introducing more
energy efficient technologies,
such as LED print engines,
Toshiba have been able to
reduce the power consumption
of their new generation of
devices by as much as 60%.

PaperCut print management
Having the right hardware is
only half the story: Toshiba
also offers a range of print
management solutions that
can be used to control costs
and, where necessary, provide
printing services to students.
One of the most popular is
PaperCut, now used in more
than 50,000 sites and 100
countries to track printing,
copying and scanning activities
by user, device and department.
As well as monitoring usage
patterns, the software can be
used to bill and charge students
or departments and implement
cost reduction measures, such
as print quotas, restrictions on
print settings, job routing to the
most cost-effective device and
secure printing.
The secure print facility
alone can lead to a reduction
of up to 30% in printed pages
and associated costs, as the
requirement to authenticate
oneself at a device in order
to output a print eliminates
unnecessary or repeat printing.
Toshiba has worked closely
with PaperCut to integrate its
software with e-STUDIO MFPs and
was the first MFP manufacturer
to make its entire direct sales
force, and service and support
teams undertake PaperCut MF
Reseller Certification.
Introducing EveryonePrint
An exciting new addition to
Toshiba’s portfolio is server-
based mobile printing software
that can be used on its own or
fully integrated with PaperCut in a
complete solution. EveryonePrint
enables students and staff to
print to a Toshiba MFP from any
smartphone, tablet, notebook
computer or workstation, on
campus or off-site.
For maximum flexibility, it
gives users a choice of printing
method: Web Print – upload
Microsoft Office, OpenOffice and
PDF documents from any web-
enabled device via an internet
browser; Email Print – send
Microsoft Office, OpenOffice and
PDF documents as attachments
from any email-enabled device;
and Driver Print – print any
document type directly from
programs running on a Windows,
Mac or Linux computer using a
universal print driver.
EveryonePrint is equally
easy for students, staff and IT
departments. The server-based
software can be installed and
set-up within minutes and allows
administrators to enable only
those printing methods they wish
students to use; limit usage to
the internal network; or specify
which printer each person or
group can use.
Printed material is essential
to the smooth running of a
school or university and to the
education of students. Yet if
it is uncontrolled, it can place
a big burden on budgets and
have an adverse effect on data
security and organisational
efficiency.
The challenge many
organisations in the education
sector face is how to make it
easy for staff and students to
print what they need, where
and when they want it, whilst
meeting ever tighter budgetary,
security and environmental
requirements.
At first glance, these drivers
might appear to be in opposition,
but Toshiba’s extensive
experience in the education
sector shows that they need
not be and that with the right
equipment and solutions in
place an organisation can meet
its obligations to students and
teachers and still save money on
printing, improve data security
and even reduce its carbon
footprint.
Carbon Neutral MFPs
The choice of carbon neutral
Toshiba e-STUDIO MFPs is
a good starting point. Since
introducing the Toshiba Carbon
Zero Scheme in 2009, Toshiba
have offset all greenhouse gas
emissions from the manufacture
and supply of their e-STUDIO
MFPs and given customers the
opportunity to do the same
for any CO
2
resulting
from their use of the
devices.
This helps
organisations in
the education
sector reduce
their own carbon
footprint and gives
them a compelling
CSR message that can
be woven into lessons
Data security built-in
Another useful feature of
the latest Toshiba MFPs is a
self-encrypting drive (SED)
with Wipe technology that can
help schools, colleges and
universities prevent confidential
information from falling into the
wrong hands.
This new Toshiba
development encrypts
information on the MFPs hard
disk and won’t give access to
data unless the associated MFP
has authenticated itself.
This means that if a
drive is powered
down, removed
from its housing
or connected to
an unauthorised
system, Wipe
technology will
automatically
invalidate the SED’s
data and encryption
keys, effectively making
