SwyxWare

operating
system...
Last summer Swyx launched a
new version of its software-based
unified communications solution for
small and medium-sized businesses,
remodelled from the ground up
to provide greater simplicity, ease
of use and a host of new features
including HD sound quality, voice/
data encryption and rich presence.
Like previous versions, SwyxWare
2011 is a pure software solution based
on the Microsoft Windows operating
system, running on one server with one
administration console for controlling all
features and functions
Following feedback from resellers, Swyx
made SwyxWare 2011 an even neater
solution by changing its licensing model
and the way it is sold.
SwyxWare 2011 can now be specified
with an exact number of licenses and
comes in just one Standard model offering
all that 90% of businesses will need,
including voicemail, computer telephony
integration, Microsoft Outlook integration,
application sharing, instant messaging,
peer-to-peer video telephony and
conferencing. Additional features can be
bought as options.
As examples of what’s standard and
what’s extra, Swyx Executive Vice President
Sales & Marketing Dr Ralf Ebbinghaus
referred to computer telephony integration
and conferencing. “Integration with
Exchange and Outlook is provided as
standard, but integration with Lotus Notes
would be extra. Similarly, SwyxWare’s
conferencing capabilities are completely
scalable and users have the option to
extend them to an unlimited number of
participants with other benefits such as full
recording of meetings,” he said.
The new version also features improved
integration with enterprise applications,
such as ERP or CRM, bringing interesting
new possibilities. For example, SwyxWare
could see whether a caller had outstanding
invoices and, if they did, send the call
straight to accounts, or it could route a
call to different customer service agents
depending on whether it came from a tier
one or tier two customer.
Big expansion
The launch of SwyxWare 2011 has been
the catalyst for a big expansion of Swyx’s
presence in the UK. It recently opened its
first UK office, in Stockley Park, and last year
increased the number of active Swyx dealers
in the UK by 10% – a strategy it plans to
continue in 2012 as it attempts to grow its
share of the small and medium-sized phone
system market. In Germany, SwyxWare is
the Number 1 IP PBX below 50 users and
the Number 2 below 100 users
For Dr Ebbinghaus, there has never
been a better time to switch to Swyx.
“In the old days, end users looked for a
telephone system and that was all: there
was no integration between Outlook
Exchange, CRM, Lotus Notes and other
applications,” he said. “But companies
today need to give their workforce the
flexibility to work from different locations
and communicate using a smartphone,
office phone or their home phone, with
access to all system features. We are the
perfect solution because we are 100%
software-based and fit into the customers’
IT infrastructure.”
In order to meet customers’ changing
needs, SwyxWare 2011 is continuing
to evolve. In October Swyx brought out
Release 2, which among other things
makes it easier to integrate smartphones
connected to the SwyxWare server via
GPRS, 3G or WiFi. The SwyxIt! Mobile
app for iPhone and Android devices gives
smartphone users full access to phone
system features, including phone books,
call/redial lists and Presence, plus the
ability to make and take calls using just
one number. Another useful feature is a
‘Fast Dial’ function that completes call
set-up 50% faster, overcoming the delays
that can occur when making calls on a
smartphone.
Other developments to look out for
later this year are the company’s first
branded handsets and more software
solutions to facilitate integration with third
party applications.
Thousands of businesses are already
using SwyxWare to be more efficient,
more productive and more responsive to
customers’ needs. The latest version makes
it even easier for SMEs to implement
unified communications today or in the
future as their needs change.
