The financial year 2011 was the
best yet for DSales (UK), the
UK distributor of Develop MFPs
manufactured by Konica Minolta
Holdings. Record-breaking sales of
£9.5 million – 40% higher than the
previous year – some impressive
new MFPs and the launch of its own
print solutions marked 2010/2011
as a vintage year for DSales and its
dealers.
The expansion of Develop’s range of
print solutions is particularly significant,
as it gives customers the ability to make
maximum use of their hardware and opens
up new sales opportunities for DSales
resellers. With access to leading solutions
like Pcounter, DSales resellers have
successfully competed for managed print
service (MPS) contracts, some covering as
many as 80 devices.
Towards the end of 2010, DSales (UK)
introduced the first in a series of solutions
created by Develop especially for use
with its own devices. Offering a simpler
feature set and lower pricing than third
party solutions, these are tailor-made for
Develop’s core customer base of small and
medium-sized businesses.
In addition to easy installation and
operation, they give SMEs with limited
in-house IT expertise the reassurance of
a single point of contact. Because the
hardware and software supplier is one and
the same, there is no risk of buck-passing
between the two should anything go
wrong.
The first products in the series were
Personal Print and Personal Scan. The
former is a classic secure print solution that
lets users authenticate themselves at any
Personal Print-enabled Develop MFP and
pull one or more of their print jobs down
from a print server for output. Simpler
and more affordable than Pcounter, it is
ideal for customers who don’t require job
accounting functions.
Personal Scan simplifies and speeds up
the routing of scans by removing the need
to input destination addresses manually.
When a user logs on, they can see their
own address book and other Windows
Active Directories and copy the address
they need. Administrators can define
users’ access rights and set rules for colour
scanning and resolution levels to help
restrict storage volumes.
Editor’s Choice
In October 2011, DSales (UK) added
store+find to the series. Winner of a
PrintIT
Editor’s Choice award, this versatile
document management system makes it
easy for smaller businesses to improve
productivity through the electronic storage
and retrieval of all documents whether
they originated in paper or electronic form.
Like other Develop solutions, it
combines ease of use, affordability and
a streamlined yet powerful feature set,
including web browser access from any
location; OCR integration for full text
searches; automatic back-up of saved
documents; integration with Microsoft
Office; direct mail import from Microsoft
Outlook; version control; and the ability to
apply follow-up to dates so that users are
automatically presented with documents
when further action is required.
The software is available in three
versions: Team, a basic offering for 1-3
employees; Business for organisations with
multiple departments and sophisticated
needs, such as direct import from MS Office;
and Enterprise, which includes advanced
features like faster e-mail import and
integrated user administration for managing
access rights to stored documents.
One very useful option for all three
versions (store+find embedded) gives
customers the ability to embed the
software on a Develop MFP, significantly
reducing the number of steps required to
scan paper documents into the system. This
allows keywords and indexing data to be
entered into store+find at the MFP itself,
instead of at a PC workstation.
Acquiring a highly productive
departmental MFP is a significant
investment for any business, so it makes
sense to exploit all of its capabilities.
Develop store+find does this brilliantly,
by making use of the MFP scanner to
store paper-based documents alongside
electronic ones in single database. With
more solutions in the pipeline for 2012,
including convert+share, which lets users
scan documents into electronic workflows
in the appropriate format (e.g. searchable
PDF or editable Word file), Develop MFPs
can be used by any size of business to
transform productivity and business
efficiency.
